What to do and Where to stay in

Rightly known as the Sunshine State, Queensland is stuffed full of experiences unlike anywhere else on the planet. This natural wonderland has no less than five World Heritage Sites found amidst its myriad of landscapes; rainforest, desert, tropics, beaches and fun-filled laid-back cities.   The state is warm all year round with the capital Brisbane at the south, with Cairns and Port Douglas perched in the north, just below the world’s oldest rainforest.  In-between lies vast stretches of golden beaches, idyllic islands and of course the earth’s largest living reef.

Experiences in Queensland

Obviously in a sunshine- filled landscape as diverse as this, there is no shortage of unique and exciting things to enjoy. For most The Great Barrier Reef lies top of this glittering list. Scuba, snorkel, sail, cruise or even fly over this technicolour marvel from your base in Cairns, coastal Port Douglas or even from a tropical island stay in the Whitsundays.

Further north lies the world’s oldest rainforest, lush green canopies filled with flora and fauna, straight out of a film set, tower above the boarded walkways. Enjoy a guided walk with an elder and learn about the history and magic of this ancient land. The reef and rainforest in the north is matched by iconic surf beaches and beautiful coastal cities in the south.

Lovely, alfresco Brisbane is set between competing dramatic coastlines,  the laid-back Sunshine coast to the North is teeming with national parks, miles of sandy bays, vineyards and acres of beautiful hinterland such as the Glass House mountains, while it’s glitzier, more commercial sister, the Gold Coast (running South), serves up buzzy nightlife and a faster pace of life, alongside it’s sensational beaches and turquoise waters (definitely one for the teens).
