Experiences in Tofino and Ucluelet
Laid back Tofino is Canada’s surf capital with long sandy beaches ideal for beachcombing. It’s also the gateway to the spectacular Clayoquot Sound. Here the sheltered bays and inlet waterways are ideal for sea-kayaking. Head out on a zodiac boat to spot black bears as they gather to feed on shellfish at low tide. You may also see eagles, seals, sea lions and other wildlife as you cruise along the shoreline.
The neighbouring town of Ucluelet enjoys a spectacular setting on this unspoiled stretch of rugged coast. Explore the area with a hike along the Wild Pacific Trail which takes in the dramatic coastline and visit the town’s popular aquarium right on the harbour promenade.
Take time to explore the Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach – a 10-mile stretch of pristine sand between Ucluelet and Tofino. During the summer months, this area offers wonderful hiking through ancient rainforest, kayaking and surfing. This region is also renowned for its whale watching with excursions operating out of Tofino and Ucluelet. Grey whales, humpback and orcas can be spotted in the waters along with other marine life including sea lions, seals, porpoises and pods of dolphins.
