Garden Route
Tsala Treetop Lodge

This luxurious lodge, hewn from local rock and wood, affords the most stunning vistas over the treetops.

Guests here are spoilt in every way, with excellent dining also a feature of your stay, making it hard to leave and explore the local attractions! We recommend the superb 2 bedroom villas for families, whilst couples can escape to their romantic tree-house suite including a private deck and plunge pool.

Please note there isn’t a swimming pool on site (just plunge pools at each suite) but you can wander over to Hunters Country House where there is a large pool and loungers to enjoy.

Facilities & Activities

Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to Tsala. Whether you want to soak up the sun and views, indulge in retail therapy, get lost in a novel or share your Garden Route adventures with in-house guests on the main deck, the choice is yours.

Please note there is no central pool at Tsala, just the individual plunge pools set within in the Treetop Suites and Villas. However guests are welcome to use the pool at sister hotel, Hunter’s Country House, which is just a short stroll away through the gardens.

Dining

Tsala dining is a real treat and some of the best South African cuisine can be enjoyed here. The glass-walled dining room allows for early morning sunshine overlooking the spectacular forest views below whilst your evening meal can be enjoyed by atmospheric candlelight. A light lunch and 24 hour room service menu is available should you wish to dine in the privacy of your suite.

Zinzi Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant serving distinctive international flavours, within a beautiful forest setting. Ideal for sun-downers at the bar, or for a relaxed dining experience, Zinzi embraces the spirit of hearty cuisine and zesty ingredients with a choice selection of a la carte menu items.
You are also welcome to dine over at Hunter’s Country House, ensuring a variety of options to tempt you if you plan to stay longer than a few nights.

A winding staircase also leads you to the hidden wine cellar, where shelves carefully house a selection of vintage and younger wines you can enjoy during your escape to Tsala.

Rooms

Tucked away in the magical allure of Tsala, you will find 10 Treetop Suites, ideal for those seeking a ‘Just Us’ experience. The architecture blends effortlessly with the age-old indigenous forest setting. The mood is earthy tones, rich textures and handcrafted fittings, combined with simple modern touches.

The 6 Two Bedroom Treetop Villas incorporate a spacious lounge and dining area and are therefore ideal if you’re planning to invite more guests on your special trip.

All suites are equipped with safe, mini bar and tea and coffee facilities whilst a fireplace sets a cosy tone in Winter. The show-stopper is the view, simply breath-taking, which can be enjoyed from your private deck with plunge-pool or outside shower.

Sustainability

Tsala Treetop Lodge is committed to a literacy programme which involves all Grade 3 learners in both the Phakamisani and Kwanokuthula Primary Schools.

A number of the Tsala staff members give of their time to support this worthy programme which includes reading, writing and conversation with the learners. This process has greatly assisted the learners to achieve age appropriate literacy skills to effectively access the curriculum in Grade 4, when the medium of instruction changes from their home language Xhosa to English.

Zinzi Restaurant provides meals for a local primary school and donate fresh produce to a local Church Soup Kitchen.

Location

Being located between Knysna and Plettenberg, allows you to enjoy the ‘best of both Worlds’. You could easily accomplish a morning visit to the Knysna Featherbeds on the John Benn (floating restaurant) followed by an afternoon of fun at Plettenberg’s Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. The local Airport is George, approx. 1 hour drive away, whilst those heading from Cape Town can drive the route in approx. 6 hours.
