This exclusive family-owned, country house retreat enjoys a charming garden setting in the heart of the magnificent Garden Route.
The original homestead with its white walls and thatched roof is reminiscent of the traditional country architecture of the region.
With just 27 rooms and suites located in the main house or dotted around the extensive gardens, each of the six luxurious room types are individually designed and decorated with their own distinctive atmosphere.
Oozing thoughtful and unique touches we love this tranquil retreat and think it works equally well for couples and families alike.

You can soak up the sun, read, enjoy a glass of wine or share your adventures with your family and friends. Explore the Hunter’s Estate taking-in the indigenous gardens and abundance of birdlife. A large pool with loungers to relax on, lounge and library with a fireplace, complimentary Wi-Fi access available throughout the property, in-room pamper treatments (on request) and Cubs Corner –a designated play area for children up to 6 years, babysitting facilities (on request).
Whilst staying at Hunter’s why not make use of the onsite bicycles to take a slow meander around the estate taking in the beautiful garden settings, getting fresh air and exercise. Should you not have plans to move very far perhaps pre-order a picnic to enjoy under a beautiful old tree relaxing, reading a book or simply enjoying being immersed in nature.
There is much to explore and do nearby; visit the The Elephant Sanctuary, Monkeyland or Birds of Eden, which is only 30 minutes away. For the more adventurous, there is bungee-jumping, tree-top zip-lining, shark cage-diving, mountain-biking and more….

Dining
Delicious breakfasts are served in the sunny conservatory and offer a selection of tasty treats to start the day. Light lunches can be taken in the dining room or on the lawns.
The outdoor boma with its comfortable couches and fireplace, is perfect for high tea or a glass of something sparkling as the sun sets over the gardens.
For a casual lunch or dinner a la carte style, the award-winning Zinzi Restaurant is just a stroll from both Hunter’s and sister-hotel Tsala. Or, opt to eat in the exquisite glass-walled dining room at Tsala which offers a la carte for lunch or dinner.
Rooms
One of the first things guests notice about Hunters is the sense of “home”. It starts at the beginning of the driveway with enticing views into secret gardens abundant with butterflies and scented air.
We love the combination of thatched, un-thatched rooms and suites – all tastefully decorated in a restful palette. A privately positioned patio and garden makes for tranquil relaxation and reflection. Each of Hunter’s 6 luxurious room types are individually designed and decorated with their own distinctive atmosphere. All have patios and gardens. Certain suites have their own plunge pool.
Terrace Rooms: These 5 rooms leading on to outdoor patio seating areas, are intimate and cosy. Situated in close proximity to the main building and a short stroll from the tented boma and main pool area.
Orchard Rooms: These 4 suites are privately-appointed in close proximity to the main pool complex. Decorated with interiors that meld past and present using contemporary textural fabrics in a calming palette offset by antique polished pieces.
Garden Suites: 12 individual thatched-roof Garden Suites, each privately positioned along the winding paths of the fragrant gardens.
Family Suites: Share family-time together in one of the 3 Family Suites which have two spacious en-suite bedrooms, all within close proximity to the others.
Pool Suites: A haven of tranquillity, the two Pool Suites have a separate lounge and dining area, French doors opening on to the patio and sun-deck to a private pool and garden.
Family Pool Suite: The two-bedroom Family Pool Suite with its own private pool, tucked discreetly into the beautiful garden offers everything you need and more for the perfect family escape.

The Country House ensures all ages are well catered for.
The wonderful ‘Cub’s Corner’ is ideal for younger guests (6 & under), with paddling pool, thatched sandpit, jungle gym and dedicated cottage with playroom.
We recommend opting for one of the 3 Family Suites which have two spacious en-suite bedrooms, all within close proximity to the others. For more space, there is the Family Pool Suite with its own private pool, tucked discreetly into the beautiful garden offers everything you need and more for the perfect family escape.

Location
Hunters Country House lies between the coastal towns of Plettenberg Bay and Knysna on the scenic Garden Route of the Western Cape. You are 10km west of South Africa’s premier resort town of Plettenburg Bay with its endless golden beaches, and just 20km east of the lagoon town of Knysna. The hotel is surrounded by rich indigenous forests and framed by the majestic mountains of the Tsitsikamma Forest.
The nearest airport is George (approx 1 hour’s drive).
