South West Thailand
Devasom, Khoa Lak

Its name means ‘house of angels’ in Sanskrit – and this 69-room resort certainly is heavenly.

Positioned on the golden sands of Khao Lak, it offers Thai luxury in spades, from the sumptuous pool suites and beachfront villas to the chilled towels and fresh coconut water you’ll be greeted with on arrival. With an array of eating options, fun activities, a divine spa and a children’s club, it’s perfect for a family-friendly tropical beach break.

Facilities & Activities

The hotel offers a vast array of activities to immerse you fully in your tropical surroundings. You can borrow kayaks and explore the surrounding lagoon, coconut mangrove or sea; or how about pedalling to a local village, temple or mangrove on one of the hotel’s bikes?

For a guided experience, the hotel offers full and half-day excursions. Organised tours include private boat trips to hidden beaches, with snorkelling and a picnic lunch, and guided spice tours of the resort. If cycling’s your thing, you could join a local villager who will show you their neighbourhood during a cycling eco-tour.

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to the town centre, while, further afield, there are fantastic mountain trekking and rafting opportunities in the Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park. Budding chefs can join a cooking class or try a ‘kanom krok’ (Thai snack) experience.

Those seeking a spot of relaxation can book yoga and mindfulness sessions, or simply head to the Devasom Spa, where Thai massages take place in an outdoor area surrounded by marble and water. Other hotel facilities include two pools, a gym, a library and a wine cellar.

The two restaurants cater to all appetites, serving both Thai and Western cuisine, while a range of fun eating options is also available, such as afternoon tea on the lawn, private beach picnics and cocktail parties. Couples can indulge in a romantic, five-course dinner by the sea – complete with a candle-and-flower-strewn table. Both restaurants have been featured in the Michelin Guide Thailand since 2021.

For all-day dining, the bright, contemporary Takola Thai Restaurant has you covered. It offers vast buffet breakfasts (everything from tropical fruit to freshly-cooked eggs) as well as local delicacies such as ‘moo hong’ (stewed pork belly) and shrimp chilli paste. Meanwhile, the Devasom Beach Grill and Bar has a poolside setting, serving up Mediterranean food. This is the spot to come for cocktails, wood-fired pizzas and locally-caught seafood – with a panoramic view over the Andaman Sea.

Elegant, spacious and boasting serene sea views, the resort’s 69 rooms and villas have a relaxed, tropical feel. Expect muted colour schemes, natural fibre rugs, pale wood furniture and a minimalist style that accentuates the mesmerising vistas beyond your balcony. Accommodation is scattered through the gardens and coconut groves, offering a sense of peace and privacy.

The six categories range from Seaside Grand Deluxe rooms to spacious Junior Suites with Jacuzzis and Pool Paradise Suites – complete with your own private pool. The pool villas are a cut above, offering oodles of space with various living areas and decks, as well as barefoot access to the beach.

If you feel like pushing the boat out, then consider the Two Bedroom Devasom Sky Pool Penthouse featuring two bedrooms, a separate living room, dining pavilion, private lap pool (17m) with spa jets and a large private courtyard complete with sun loungers – all overlooking the beautiful waters of the Andaman Sea.

Children aged 4 – 12 years will be kept entertained in the kids’ club, which is open daily (under-fours must be accompanied by a parent). The indoor, shaded space is packed with interactive games and arts and crafts. Activities range from surfing lessons and a surfboard shaping camp to origami and bracelet making. There are also beach cleans, finished off with building a model seaside town with recycled sea rubbish.

Accommodation options for families are excellent. Most room types sleep a couple with an extra child on a sofa bed.  The two-bedroom villas are the best option for a family of 4 looking for extra space, with a king and twin-room configuration available.

Devasom Khao Lak places an emphasis on local community, environmental responsibility and cultural heritage. Initiatives include providing a school lunch fund to a local school, sourcing local ingredients for the restaurants and employing local staff. The hotel has a strict recycling and eco-food management policy, and is minimising single-use plastics and focusing on reducing water consumption.

Devasom Khao Lak is located on the beach of the same name, on Phang-Nga’s western coast. It’s around a 75-minute drive from Phuket International Airport. Nearby attractions include the epic limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay, Similan Islands and Takua Pa old town as well as some epic national parks.
