Nicoya Peninsula

Barefoot luxury awaits at Nantipa, a boutique hotel nestled in lush tropical greenery, mere steps from a glorious stretch of white sand beach.

Set in the heart of the laid-back beach town of Santa Teresa, a haven for surf and yoga lovers, this stylish hotel has certainly raised the bar when it comes to accommodation in the area! 21 sumptuous suites are hidden amongst giant palms and cacti along with a glorious pool, wellness centre and open-air restaurant on the sand boasting uninterrupted views of the stunning sunsets.

Facilities & Activities

The Nicoya Peninsula is one of the world’s five ‘Blue Zones’; regions in the world where locals live far beyond the average life expectancy, therefore the focus on wellbeing is strong here. A Rainforest Yoga Shala offers a dedicated space for exercise, meditation and yoga, with both the sounds of the jungle and crashing waves as a backdrop. Book a treatment through the Numu Wellness Centre and enjoy therapies in open-air treatment rooms, on the beach, or in the privacy of your bungalow or villa terrace.

At the heart of the hotel is a beautiful freeform pool surrounded by lush palms, or wander barefoot through the gardens and you’re on the golden sand beach within seconds. The sea can be rough so more suited to surfers than swimmers, but rocky outcrops along the beach form natural pools for those wishing to enjoy a soak.

There is plenty to explore in the area and the Concierge is on hand to arrange a host of activities and excursions from horse riding and hiking in Cabo Blanco National to canopy tours through the mountains and swimming in the renowned Montezuma waterfalls. Take a boat to Tortuga Island to enjoy snorkelling and the chance to spot dolphins, manta rays and turtles.

Although there aren’t any dedicated family facilities, children are warmly welcomed here. The 3 bedroom beach villa has been designed with families in mind and children will love the fabulous pool and splashing about in the surf.

Sustainability is at the core of Nantipa’s ethos, only 6 trees were cut during the building process, and all wood was reused as furniture in the rooms. From reforestation initiatives to community support, beach preservation, and more, Nantipa’s design and values are sustainably focused.

Guests are welcomed to get involved through the ‘Pack for a Purpose’ initiative, leaving room in your suitcase to take suppliers for the projects Nantipa support. The Beach Clean-Up is also a great way to get hands on and understand a little more about beach pollution. The hotel provide buckets and ask for 10 minutes of your time to walk around the sand, pick up small pieces of plastic brought ashore daily by the currents, and place it in their recycling bin. After posting your experience in your social media, you will be rewarded with a refreshing smoothie or tropical fruit juice from the bar!

Santa Teresa is on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula and its remote location is part of the appeal. Tambor is the closest airport, approx. 1 hour drive from the hotel or expect a 5 to 5.5 hour drive from San Jose. Improvements have been made to Nicoya’s roads in recent years but you should still expect a bumpy journey in places!
