Camp Okavango, a unique and exclusive African safari camp, which is situated on the remote Nxaragha Island. This hidden treasure, in the heart of the permanent Okavango Delta, assures its guests of an unparalleled year-round water wilderness experience.

With its open air design and elevated position, the new Camp Okavango is an eco-sensitive lodge which captures the very essence of the Okavango Delta.

Please not the lodge closes for 1 month during rainy season January – March for maintenance.

Facilities & Activities

Camp Okavango’s main area comprises of a network of interconnected walkways linking up two lounge areas, a dining room, library, self-service bar and curio shop. Sweeping ramps lead to the lower level deck with two open-air fire pits and comfortable seating areas to relax and take in the natural surroundings. There is a third deck with a rim flow swimming pool and thatched lounge deck for those warm summer days.

Okavango Delta is considered a ‘Wet Camp’ and therefore activities are conducted either by motorboat or mokoro (dug out canoe). As the focus of safari’s is on the water – the game will be limited to water based animals such as elephant, hippo and crocodiles and an excellent array of bird species. Plains game can be observed on the nature walks where there is a possibility to see larger game.

Fishing is also offered in season as well as an additional activities of exploring the Delta by helicopter.

Dining

Meals are served either in the dining room or out on the deck weather permitting. Dietary requirements are catered for as needed. All local branded drinks are included in the rate.

Rooms

To ensure a peaceful and genuine safari experience, Camp Okavango accommodates just twenty-four guests. There are eleven intimate Safari Suites and one Family Suite consisting of two bedrooms and each with an en-suite bathroom. The Family Suite can accommodation 2 adults and 2 children sharing and then an additional bed can be added for a 3rd child if needed.

Each of the guest suites have been built on individual raised wooden platforms and set beneath the thick Okavango Delta vegetation. The en-suite bathrooms have double vanities, double shower and a separate water closet (with a view). The stack away sliding doors open onto a private open-air viewing deck offering beautiful views over the Okavango Delta.

Family

Children aged 6 years and above are welcome at Camp Okavango – however families with children aged 11 years and younger will be required to book private safari activities at an additional cost.

The family room comprises of two rooms both with en-suite bathrooms. The second bedroom can accommodate a third child on a roll out bed.

Sustainability

Desert & Delta Safari’s are involved with several Eco Tourism projects as well as Pack for a Purpose. They support local communities in creating career opportunities within the tourism industry as well as offering education. Due to the remoteness of the lodges an effort to offer medical treatment to staff has been recognised.

Wildlife Conservation: Desert & Delta Safaris is active in our endeavours to raise awareness and further funding for the Botswana Rhino Relocation and Reintroduction program.

Location

The lodge is situated within the heart of the Okavango Delta on the remote Nxaraga Island and is accessed by light aircraft flights either from Maun or Kasane Airports. The lodge is a 5 minutes walk from the airstrip. Approx 30 minutes from Maun and 80 minutes from Kasane flying time.
