Arenas Del Mar

This charming boutique hotel offers style and luxury in a tropical rainforest setting in Manuel Antonio, on the edge of the National Park.

If you are looking for a jungle-meets-beach location, Arenas del Mar boasts direct access to two charming beaches. With a delightful on-site spa and a plethora of adventure and wildlife-focused activities, we think this is the best small family hotel in Manuel Antonio.

Facilities & Activities

Arenas del Mar offers 2 beautifully situated pools for swimming – the beachside pool is particularly suitable for families, who can also take advantage of the informal restaurant and bar located alongside. For relaxation and pampering, Las Brisas Spa offers sumptuous treatments and relaxing massages. If you are looking for presents to take home, there is a charming little gift shop on site and the hotel regularly welcomes local craftspeople to come in and exhibit their wares.

Clearly, the highlight of a stay here is a visit to Manuel Antonio National Park. The hotel has an extremely knowledgeable resident guide and naturalist who has an uncanny ability to seek out animals, birds and insects that you would otherwise fail to spot. The hotel also offers guided walks through its own stunning 5-acre nature reserve. Early morning bird watching is a particularly popular activity as are the treks to Villa Nueva waterfall. For the more adventurous, opt for canopy tours, mangrove kayaking, horse-riding, fishing or one of the many water-based activities on offer.

The chic and sophisticated restaurant is a wonderful space with open-sided walls, and trees left in-situ to grow, giving a feeling of being immersed in the jungle. There is an excellent menu featuring locally produced and inspired foods, complemented by an excellent wine list. There is a more informal restaurant-bar down by the beach – perfect for lazy family lunches.

The 37 rooms and suites, designed in harmony with their rainforest surroundings, are located in blocks spread out along the winding path that stretches from the reception down to the beach.

The Ocean Breeze Superior Rooms are located on the lower floors with a rainforest view or opt for an Ocean View Superior Room which boasts a panoramic sea view!

Ocean Breeze Suites offer a bedroom and separate living area with a sofa-bed. The private hot tub on the deck of the suite is the perfect spot to relax.

Arenas del Mar is the perfect base for families looking to mix relaxation with wildlife and soft adventure.

Suites have a separate living area with a sofa bed and sleep up to 3 comfortably or 2 young children sharing. But for a larger family the 2-bedroom apartment-style Playitas Suite works brilliantly and is only a short stroll downhill to the family pool and pretty Playitas beach.

Arenas Del Mar is set within 11 acres of private nature reserve. The hotel itself covers less than 25 per cent of the property, and the remainder acts as a biological corridor for wildlife, connecting the areas surrounding Manuel Antonio National Park, so it will come as no surprise that nature conservation is an integral part of the hotel’s sustainable philosophy. A very limited number of trees were cut down during the hotel’s constructions and over the last two decades, the hotel has successfully reforested the area, planting 7,000 native trees and thousands of endemic plants that would have been found here originally. Twice a month, staff members volunteer to clean up and maintain one of the main nature trails at Manuel Antonio National Park and make sure the length of Espadilla Beach from the resort to the National Park is clean and free of rubbish too! Arenas Del Mar are committed to reducing plastic use and have made the conscious decision to get rid of all plastic water bottles and single-use plastic straws from the resort. They also have a hydroponic vegetable garden onsite that supplies the restaurant.

Arenas Del Mar is on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, a comfortable 3-hour drive from San José.
