Kwa Zulu Natal is a wonderful region to explore with your family – it offers mountains, scenery, wildlife, history and beach. This region is easily explored by road where you can self drive between each stop.

2 nights Drakensberg (BB), 2 nights Battlefields (DBB), 3 nights Big 5 Safari (FB) and 4 nights Beach (FB) £3,200 per adult and £2,400 per child under 12 sharing including flights, car hire and accommodation on an board basis as detailed.
Rates subject to travel dates and accommodation selection.
Suggested Extensions
An option to add a couple of nights within the St Lucia Wetlands will add an additional element to this itinerary, or end with a night or 2 in Durban for some retail therapy before flying home.
Best Time to Travel
This itinerary is popular year round, but the best time for safari is May – September during dry season. July – August are winter months for this region but get little rainfall, days are sunny but crisp.
Tips for Families
This itinerary offers plenty of activities and adventure for families. The distances between stops range between 2-4 hours, but there are areas to stop at and explore en route. The warm weather and sea temperature will keep everyone happy!

Itinerary
Day 1 | Fly overnight to Johannesburg, South Africa
Depart Heathrow Airport for an overnight flights of approx 10.5 hours to Johannesburg.
Day 2 | Self Drive to the Drakensberg Mountains
Morning arrival into Johannesburg Airport, where you will collect your car hire. Self drive approx 4 hours to the Drakensberg. There is an option to fly to Durban Airport either via Johannesburg or direct – and then self drive from Durban to the Drakensberg which is approx 4 hours by road.
Day 3 | Enjoy Exploring the Drakensberg
Spend the next day enjoying walks, canoeing or horse riding through this beautiful landscape.
Day 4 | Self drive from the Drakensberg to the Battlefields
After breakfast – begin your 3.5 hour drive from the Drakensberg to the heart of the Battlefields.
Day 5 | Join a Battlefield Tour or enjoy local activities
Today you can join either a full day or half day battlefield tour which will take you back in time to these fearsome battles.
Day 6 | Self Drive to your Safari
After breakfast – drive approx 5 hours to your Safari. There are various private reserves in this area so drive time may differ pending your lodge choice.
Day 7-8 | Spend the next 2 days game viewing
Spend the next 2 days enjoying game drives and walks within your private game reserve. Morning and Afternoon Game Drives are offered, each lasting approx 3 hours.
Day 9 | Self drive to the Beach
After breakfast – self drive approx 2.5 hours to your beach lodge.
Day 10-12 | Time to relax and rest
Spend the next 3 days relaxing and enjoying a well deserved break on the wild beaches of Kwa Zulu Natal. If you still up for adventure there is scuba diving, snorkelling and deep sea fishing to keep you busy!
Day 13 | Self Drive to Durban Airport for your flight home to the UK
This morning – begin your drive back to Durban Airport approx 5 hours drive, in time to check in for your flight home to the UK via Johannesburg.
