Prices for children under 12 and yacht based tours in the Galapagos on request.

Suggested Extensions

If time allows, why not visit the Amazon rainforest in either Peru or Ecuador?  If you’d also like to add horse riding to your itinerary, a Hacienda stay would also be a perfect addition!

Best Time to Travel

The best time to visit Peru is the dry season, between May – October, heralding blue skies in the Andes, but chilly nights.  This also corresponds with a good time to visit the Galapagos, with the Humboldt current bringing cooler conditions but plenty of food for marine life.

Tips for Families

If you would like to trek to Machu Picchu, you can take a 6 hour day trek from age 12 rather than taking the train and arrive at the Citadel on foot!

Highlights

  • Explore the fertile Sacred Valley home to famed Spanish colonial villages
  • Trek or take the train to Machu Picchu and visit at sunset or sunrise
  • Snorkel and kayak with amazing sea life such as turtles, sea lions and marine iguanas
  • Visit the Giant tortoises and explore the caves in the Highlands of Santa Cruz

Itinerary

DAY 1 | TAKE YOUR FLIGHT TO LIMA

Today set off on your adventure!  Currently flights are non direct, so you may even wish to have a stop over.

DAY 2 | EXPLORE THE CAPITAL CITY OF PERU

Depending on your arrival time, after a rest take a walking or bike tour of what was once knows as the ‘City of the Kings’ where old now meets new.  Stroll along the beachside esplanades or explore the Plaza de Armas, the town square which is a World Heritage Site in its’ own right.

DAY 3 - 5 | THE SACRED VALLEY

Fly to Cusco and drive through the scenic Sacred Valley stopping to see traditional weaving techniques en-route.  Settle in to your hotel for the next 3 nights to acclimatise to the altitude before you head to the pinnacle of your Peruvian adventure.

During your days here, enjoy the stunning setting whilst shopping for handicrafts in the small but colourful colonial village of Pisac.  Perhaps visit the impressive Inca sites at Ollantaytambo, or just take it easy at the hotel.

DAY 6 | TIME TO VISIT MACHU PICCHU!

Today either take the train or the short day trek (6 hours) to the Lost City of the Incas, not discovered till 1911, and explore with your guide!  Overnight will be near the ruins.

DAY 7 - 8 | EXPLORE PRETTY CUSCO

Return to Machu Picchu at sunrise if you wish, before travelling back down to Cusco for 2 nights.  On your full day you can explore the sites of this enchanting City which was built by the Spanish on the remains of Inca temples and palaces.  Today it still remains a thriving metropolis of Andean culture through the ages.

DAY 9 | FLY TO GUAYAQUIL IN ECUADOR

Today take your flight from Cusco to Guayaquil via Lima.  Settle in to your comfortable airport hotel for the night as you prepare for the second part of your adventure!

DAY 10 - 12

This morning take your flight from Guayaquil to Baltra in the volcanic archipelago of the Galapagos, a journey which usually takes just under 2 hours.  On arrival you will take the shared bus and ferry over to Santa Cruz Island, and from here a private transfer over the Highlands and down to the town of Puerto Ayora, where you’ll send the next 3 nights at Finch Bay, a National Geographic Lodge.  Alternatively you can check in for your 3 – 7 night cruise!

If staying land based, you’ll spend one full day is spend exploring local islands by yacht.  You can also then take a self-guided visit to Tortuga Bay to snorkel with the turtles and the Highlands to meet the giant tortoises and explore the amazing cave formations.  You can also visit the Charles Darwin Research Centre, just outside of Puerto Ayora.  Las Grietas is also very close to Finch Bay, an stretch of emerald green water at the bottom of an earth fissure, so bring suitable shoes!

DAY 13 | DEPART FOR THE UK

Today take your flight from Baltra to Europe via Guayaquil or Quito – it’s a long journey (at least 3 flights) so you may wish to stop over at some point on mainland Ecuador, for example a stay at Hacienda La Danesa, a 90 minute transfer from Guayaquil, or spend a few days in Quito.
