Bali
Tandjung Sari Hotel, Sanur

Set along one of the calmest stretches of coastline on the island in Sanur, Tandjung Sari is a rare kind of Bali classic—unpretentious, quietly elegant, and deeply rooted in place, having been established in 1962.

This is a hotel that invites you to settle in, stroll barefoot along paths through the tropical gardens, watch the morning light catch on the thatched roofs and listen to the distant sound of fishing boats heading out to sea.

Facilities & Activities

Life here unfolds at an unhurried coastal pace. The beachfront pool sits just steps from the sea, surrounded by palms and traditional Balinese architecture, offering a peaceful place to drift between swimming and sunbathing.

The beach itself is the main attraction—wide, sheltered and ideal for long, easy walks at sunrise or sunset when the light turns the water to soft gold. The sea here is calm year-round, making it perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply floating in warm, shallow water, but a seaside infinity pool also beckons.

Spa treatments can be arranged in-room or in nearby wellness spaces, adding another layer of quiet restoration to the stay.

Dining

Dining at Tandjung Sari is centred around The Restaurant on the beachfront, where tables sit just back from the sand in the airy pavilion and on the wooden deck, blessed by the sound of the ocean. The menu, served all day, blends Indonesian classics with simple international dishes, focusing on fresh, well-prepared flavours. Seafood is a highlight, often paired with local spices and served in a setting that feels effortlessly relaxed.

Breakfast is especially memorable with golden morning light filtering through the palms, whilst as evening arrives, the atmosphere becomes more intimate, with soft lighting and the sound of waves forming a natural backdrop. There is also a beach bar area, perfect for a late afternoon drink as the sky begins to shift colour and fishing boats return along the horizon.

The children of the Tandjung Sari Foundation also perform classic Balinese dance on the first and third Saturday of the month.

Rooms

Individual bungalows nestle within tropical gardens, creating a village-like sense of privacy and space. Each is designed in traditional Balinese style, with thatched roofs, carved wood details and open-air living that connects directly to the landscape.  Luxury here is interpreted less in the modern sense, and more as charm, authenticity and sense of place.

Village, Garden and Two-Storey Bungalows offer a sense of quiet seclusion, with garden terraces or small courtyards that feel deeply peaceful. Interiors are simple yet characterful, with natural materials and a timeless coastal aesthetic.

If you’re seeking a connection to the ocean, book a Beachfront Bungalow set in it’s own small garden with sea views from the upstairs loft, allowing you to wake to the sound of waves and be only a few steps from the sand. Bathrooms are spacious, often with indoor-outdoor elements that bring the garden into daily rituals.

Family

Tandjung Sari is a gentle, family-friendly option, particularly well suited to those seeking a relaxed beach base.

There is no dedicated kids’ club, but the calm waters of Sanur beach make it one of Bali’s most child-friendly swimming spots. The slow pace and walkable surroundings also make it easy for families to settle in comfortably.

Children’s meals are available at the beachfront restaurant, with flexible options to suit younger guests.

Bungalows and suites can accommodate families, with options for an extra bed, whilst there are also two specific Family Bungalows featuring a queen-sized bedroom connecting to a twin.

Sustainability

The hotel maintains a low-rise, village-style footprint that blends naturally into its surroundings, preserving the character of Sanur’s coastline. Gardens are carefully maintained, and the emphasis is on working with the natural environment rather than reshaping it.

There is a quiet respect for Balinese tradition throughout, reflected in both architecture and daily operations, helping preserve a sense of continuity with the area’s cultural heritage.

Location

Located directly on the beachfront of Sanur, Tandjung Sari offers one of the most accessible yet tranquil coastal settings on Bali. The calm lagoon waters make it ideal for swimming, while the beachfront promenade connects easily to cafés, shops and local restaurants.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is approximately 45 minutes away by car, making it one of the most convenient beach arrivals on the island—yet once you are here, it feels quietly removed from the pace of modern travel.
