Southern Patagonia
Eolo Patagonia’s Spirit

Nestled in the wide-open steppe just outside El Calafate, this luxury adventure lodge combines comfort and calm with a true sense of place. Just a short drive from the Perito Moreno Glacier, Eolo Patagonia’s Spirit is the closest luxury lodge to this iconic natural wonder. Set on a 10,000-acre private estate, it offers breathtaking views of the Patagonian steppe, distant mountains, and ever-changing skies—all in splendid isolation.

Inspired by the region’s historic estancias, the boutique lodge is thoughtfully designed around a peaceful central courtyard, blending rustic charm with refined modern elegance.

Eolo has incredible views of Lago Argentino, La Anita Valley, and on a clear day, as far as Chile’s famous Torres del Paine and the Rico branch of the same lake. With endless opportunities for riding, trekking, bird-watching and mountain biking this luxurious boutique hotel is the go to place to escape and relax. Eolo is more than a place to stay—it’s a true Patagonian experience, steeped in nature, silence and space.

Facilities & Activities

Eolo Lodge is the perfect base for exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Argentine Patagonia. Guests can relax in cosy shared spaces including a library, TV room, bar and lounge areas, or take in the views from the outdoor terraces and inner courtyard. There’s also a sauna and indoor pool, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge—although you may prefer to unplug and enjoy the silence or curl up and read a book.

Activities & Excursions

On arrival, staff walk you through the daily activity programme and optional guided tours. You will also get a helpful intro to the region’s glaciers, wildlife and Patagonian culture—plus tips on the best trails, reads, and lookout points.

Right on the lodge’s private estate, you can go hiking, birdwatching, or mountain biking, and there are horse riding options for all levels (additional cost). If you would like to explore further afield, the team can arrange unforgettable glacier treks, ice-hiking on Perito Moreno, 4WD safaris, boat tours and fly fishing trips.

Don’t miss a visit to the Perito Moreno or Upsala Glacier—from easy boardwalk treks to more rugged excursions that reveal sinkholes, ice caves and glacial rivers. Crampons and gear are usually provided by local operators.

Dining

Guests at Eolo Lodge stay on a full board basis, with all meals and soft drinks included. Local ingredients are used wherever possible and food is fresh and imaginative. Most dietary requirements can be catered for and room service is available.

You can opt for breakfast in bed, but the immense floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room make breakfast there an experience in itself. Tea lovers will be in heaven as the lodge considers tea-making a serious business and only uses the highest quality loose leaf teas. Excellent quality coffee, delicious fresh fruit juices and of course an abundance of tasty home-made pastries and fresh fruit, as well as eggs prepared to order, ensure you will be well set up for the day ahead.

Lunch is often spent out and about, in which case the hotel will prepare a gourmet picnic for you.

For dinner, expect a sophisticated menu, designed with flair, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Don’t miss the weekly asado – something to emulate on your return maybe!

Rooms

Eolo Lodge was designed to blend into the wild beauty of Patagonia, and that calm, open feeling extends into every room. The lodge’s luxurious but understated suites are decorated in soft, natural tones and feature a relaxed mix of modern comforts and antique charm.

There are just 17 spacious suites—including 12 Superior Suites, 3 Premium Suites, and 2 Corner Suites—each offering panoramic views of the Patagonian steppe and mountains. Big windows let in tonnes of light, and the vibe is all about peace, space and scenery.

Inside, you will find wonderfully comfortable beds, telephone, radio and a stylish en-suite bathroom with a powerful shower, deep bathtub, robes, slippers and all the essentials. There’s no TV, but with views this good, we don’t think you will miss it.

Family

Eolo welcomes children aged 12 yrs+ and most rooms can accommodate an extra bed and possibly two if required. Many activities can be tailored to suit younger teens.

Sustainability

At Eolo, caring for the incredible Patagonian landscape isn’t just a bonus—it’s part of the experience. The lodge was built to blend into its surroundings, keeping its footprint light so nature stays front and center. They use renewable energy, use a natural spring for their water supply, and source local ingredients to support nearby communities and reduce impact. It’s all about letting guests enjoy this stunning place without leaving a mark. Eolo also emphasises cultural sustainability by incorporating indigenous art and local traditions.

Location

Eolo is about a 25 minute drive from El Calafate in Southern Patagonia. If you are travelling from the Torres del Paine in Chile, expect the journey to take about 5 hours overland. El Chalten is approx. 2.5 hours away. El Calafate is well connected in terms of air travel – the flight to Buenos Aires is 3 hours, to Ushuaia 1 hour, Bariloche 1.5 hours and Trelew also about 1.5 hours.

Due to the extremes of weather in this region, Eolo is usually open from early October to late April only. September, October and March are the best months to visit as they are out of season so there are fewer people but the weather is still usually mild. The Patagonian autumn in particular is truly breath-taking. Whenever you decide to visit, it’s always a good idea to come equipped with waterproofs, good hiking shoes/ boots and warm clothing as the weather is often unpredictable.
