Location
Bomani Tented Lodge lies on a 5000 hectare private concession in the remote and unspoilt Ngamo Plains region of the south-eastern corner of Hwange National Park. This particular area of Hwange has beautiful open plains and herds of animals roaming freely across the open savannah. Several pans dotted around the open plains attract vast herds of elephant along with all the other species including lion, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, sable and many more. The south eastern part of the park is so remote that only vehicles from the Wilderness Lodges will ever be seen down there.
There are no fences, simply a railway line that separates the private reserve from the Hwange National Park, therefore game roams freely between the two. The National park is just a 15 minute drive through the private concession which is a game-drive in itself. Such close access to the park gives guests the best of both worlds.
Bomani is a 4-5 hour drive or an hour’s flight from Victoria Falls. Alternatively, you can opt to take the Stimela Star – four private vintage carriages on the sleeper train from Victoria Falls to Ngamo. A popular alternative is to travel two hours by road to Dete Railway Station, then ride for two hours on the Elephant Express – an open-sided railcar cleverly adapted for game-viewing that travels along the side of the National Park to Bomani Siding from where it is a short hop to camp.
