Waterberg
Ants Collection – Ants Hill

Ant’s Hill is situated in a Private Game Reserve, on an escarpment looking out over the Waterberg Plateau in the Limpopo Province affording guests the most wonderful views.

A maximum of 16 guests can stay in spacious thatched cottages with vast folding doors leading on to private decks, whilst locally inspired furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics make it both sophisticated and comfortable. The Lodge offers traditional game drives, bushwalks and mountain biking alongside a unique horseback safari experience suitable for all ages and abilities. This allows you closer contact with wildlife including white rhino, giraffe, and plains game.

Please note for this reason it is not a Big 5 reserve, but more appealing to those who want to experience a more active safari experience and ideal in combination with a stay in Madikwe Game Reserve for lions and elephant!

Facilities & Activities

The main lodge boasts a spacious living area and dining room, both with fireplaces. A large veranda and deck overhang the gorge so are ideal for early morning breakfasts and evening sundowners. To top it all Ant’s Hill overlooks a waterhole frequently visited by a variety of game.

Complimentary activities include game drives, horse riding, bush walks, mountain biking, badminton, volleyball and swimming. Tours of Bushman paintings, Iron Age villages and local farms, massages, clay pigeon and target shooting are charged additionally.

Guests are always welcome to join in on any management activities on the reserves such as game capture and relocation, treating injured animals, burning firebreaks, game census on horseback etc.

Since the Waterberg lies on an intercontinental divergence zone there is a wider variety of flora and fauna than elsewhere in Africa sustaining over 40 species of game including giraffe, white rhino, sable antelope, buffalo, nyala, gemsbok (Oryx), kudu, Livingstone eland, blue wildebeest (gnu), red hartebeest, zebra, impala, bushbuck, duiker, steenbuck, mountain reedbuck, waterbuck, warthog, blesbuck, baboons, bushpig, klipspringer, leopard, jackal, brown hyena, caracal, civet and genet to name but a few!

Family

Children of all ages are welcome at the Lodge and on the game drives. Those age 5 plus can also ride out, with pony rides closer to the lodge arranged for younger children. The rangers here are particularly pro-active in taking children out to explore the African Bush. From making a fire, changing a wheel on a tractor, to bug collection and identification, even Rhino transportation for the brave, guests both young and old will be enthralled.

Trampolines / badminton and toys and games are available for use between activities.

One child can share Lookout on a day bed, 2 children can share Hideaway on bunk beds, whilst for larger families or those wanting several bedrooms, the Family Cottage features 3 bedrooms (one a loft room with mattresses) and 2 bathrooms with central sitting room, or for the ultimate family escape, Worlds View Cottage has the option of a triple bedroom downstairs with private deck and pool and a sumptuous double bedroom upstairs with the most amazing terrace featuring a bath!

Bespoke children meals can be prepared and in-house staff provide baby-sitting services.

Please note there is some open balustrading at Ant’s Hill and although the height generates simply stunning views, generally we recommend Ant’s Hill for those with older children.
