Magari Safari Lodge

Situated high above a sweeping bend of the Palala River, in the private Jembisa Game Reserve, with widespread panoramic views over savanna and woodland to
a backdrop of hills, Magari is in a spectacular position.

This small, personal and private lodge with a flexible tailor-made safari itinerary on offer is only available for Exclusive Use and is perfect for small groups or families looking for a secluded time away. It truly is MAGICAL MAGARI.

Facilities & Activities

The main lodge at Magari is well appointed. As with any self-respecting safari lodge there is a boma –  sitting around a campfire in the evening chatting about the events of the day is a highlight for many guests. During the day you’ll want to enjoy the pool (not heated) and sunbathing terrace which have spectacular views. A look-out area is the perfect spot to enjoy cocktails as you watch the sun set behind distant hills. WiFi is available in the main lodge.

There are a wide range of activities to suit all ages and interests, including day and night game drives, guided bush-walks, wildlife camera trap-setting, bird-watching, camp-outs under the stars, mountain-biking, fishing, visits to Bushman painting and Iron Age sites on the reserve. Travel through the bush, expertly guided by your rangers in 4×4 safari vehicles or on foot. The reserve offers 69 animal species and 270 bird species.

A very popular option are the camp-outs; spend time under the African stars, snuggle up under the Milky Way, search for shooting stars, enjoy a delicious campfire dinner, listen to the sounds of the bush and wake up to the incomparable African dawn.

Other local activities can be arranged including scenic helicopter flights, horse-riding, quad-biking, zip-lining, cultural visits, local curio and African art shopping and visits to a Big 5 Reserve. Last but not least, there are massage treatments on offer – perfect post game-drive!

Magari (Jembisa Game Reserve) is part of the Unesco International Waterberg Biosphere reserve and is an active member of the Waterberg Nature conservancy – an organisation comprising the owners of the majority of the land in the area with the aim of fostering good conservation practices, sharing ideas and support. The main international organisation that they support is Fauna and Flora International.

Magari Lodge is located on Jembisa Game Reserve in the heart of the Waterberg. The Waterberg lies approx 3 – 3 1/2 hours north east of Johannesburg by road, 4 hours east of Madikwe and 5 hours west of Kruger National Park. Private shuttle flights can also be arranged.

Since the Waterberg lies on an intercontinental divergence zone there is a wider variety of flora and fauna than elsewhere in Africa sustaining over 40 species of game including giraffe, sable antelope, nyala, gemsbok (Oryx), kudu, Livingstone eland, blue wildebeest (gnu), red hartebeest, zebra, impala, bushbuck, duiker, steenbuck, mountain reedbuck, waterbuck, warthog, blesbuck, baboons, bushpig, klipspringer, leopard, jackal, brown hyena, caracal, civet and genet to name but a few!
