Lombok and The Gili Islands
Amanwana, Moyo Island

The only resort set on the pristine shores of Moyo Island in the protected Moyo Satonda National Park, east of Bali and Lombok, Amanwana is one of Indonesia’s most extraordinary hideaways. Meaning “peaceful forest” in Sanskrit, this intimate retreat blends the excitement of an expedition with the effortless refinement for which Aman is renowned.

Surrounded by emerald rainforest, powder-soft beaches, and the crystal-clear waters of the Flores Sea, it offers a rare chance to experience one of Indonesia’s last truly untouched corners. Life here unfolds at an unhurried pace, shaped by nature, discovery and highly personalised service.

Facilities & Activities

At Amanwana, the island itself defines the experience. The open-air Beach Club, the resort’s central hub, offers a relaxed yet elegant setting for dining and unwinding between adventures.

Set amidst the beauty of the island’s nature, The spa draws on traditional Indonesian healing practices, offering restorative treatments designed to bring balance and calm.  The Yoga Shala sits amongst the forest close to the shoreline, its open-air design allowing a true connection between person and place.

Adventure-infused activities are at the heart of the Amanwana experience.  Challenge your balance on stand-up paddle board, catch the breeze whilst windsurfing or kayak along the dramatic coastline. The camp also hosts a PADI Dive centre, enabling guests to explore the surrounding marine world, where coral reefs teem with vibrant life and sea turtles glide through crystal-clear currents.  Located just east of Moyo, Saleh Bay is also home to the second-largest whale shark population on earth with at least 99 known residents inhabiting its waters year-round. In the presence of an experienced guide, guests have the opportunity to seek out these wonderful creatures with a bespoke excursion (payable locally).

Meanwhile, on terra firma, guided treks and mountain bike trails lead through protected rainforest, home to deer, macaques and prolific birdlife, to hidden waterfalls where you can take a dip before returning to camp.

Dining

The resort’s own garden produces many of the vegetables, fruits and herbs used in the kitchen, whilst fresh seafood is delivered directly from the fisherman’s boats.

Dining is centred around the elegant Beach Club, an open-air restaurant and bar overlooking the Flores Sea where freshly prepared Indonesian dishes and international favourites are served with seafood, unsurprisingly, featured prominently.

Beyond the Beach Club, dining becomes a deeply personal experience. Guests may enjoy candlelit dinners beneath a canopy of stars, secluded beach picnics reached by boat, or bespoke meals crafted entirely around individual preference.

Rooms

Amanwana’s collection of tented suites, 58 square metres in size, reflect the spirit of classic exploration elevated with understated luxury. Set beneath a canopy of tamarind trees, each tent is designed with polished hardwood floors, soaring canvas ceilings and refined Indonesian furnishings that echo the surrounding landscape. With all featuring king-size or twin beds, air conditioning, spacious en-suite bathrooms and generous outdoor living areas, the variation is just the view.

Jungle Tents are enveloped by the tropical setting, whilst Ocean View Tents offer a glimpse of the Flores see through the lush foliage. If you’re keen to be directly on the shoreline, opt for an Ocean Front Tent for uninterrupted sea vistas.

Family

Amanwana welcomes families into its remote natural setting, offering an inspiring backdrop for shared discovery and adventure. Children can explore the shoreline through guided snorkelling, learn about marine life in the surrounding reefs and discover the island’s rainforest trails with a gentle focus on conservation and nature.

The resort’s intimate scale allows experiences to be tailored with care, ensuring younger guests remain engaged and comfortable throughout their stay. Children’s dining options can be arranged, whilst the day bed in the tent can be made up for a child / teen sharing (or 2 children under 12), making Amanwana equally suited to couples and families seeking a rare off-grid escape together.

Sustainability

Amanwana balances luxury ecotourism with deep ecological and social responsibility on Moyo Island. The resort protects 12,000 hectares of land and sea through its conservation fund, which supports coral reef restoration and turtle protection. The eco-friendly tented villas have been designed to leave wildlife corridors undisturbed and the resort has eliminated 99% of single-use plastics, composts food leftovers, and helps neighbouring villages safely manage their waste too.

Additionally, local people account for up to 95% of the resort positions, and staff members regularly visit island schools to teach English and environmental awareness lessons.

Location

Located within the protected Moyo Satonda National Park, Amanwana occupies a privileged position on the western coast of Moyo Island, east of Bali. Access is via a short flight from Bali to Sumbawa, followed by a scenic 45-minute boat transfer across the Flores Sea. On arrival, guests are immersed in untouched rainforest, extraordinary marine life and complete natural seclusion, where the sense of escape is immediate and enduring.
