The Galapagos can be considered a year-round destination;  when you choose to travel can just depend on what temperatures you enjoy and activities you’d like to incorporate into your trip!

January – May

Temperatures:  This is the warm season, so a great time to escape Winter in the UK,.  Both air and water temperatures are typically in the mid to high 20s (degree centigrade).

Rainfall: Whilst you can expect frequent showers and even the occasional downpour, you should also benefit from predominantly sunny skies so your overall experience should not be impacted by rain.  

Wind and waves: This time also coincides with calmer seas if you’re keen to take a yacht to explore but can get seasick.  Excellent visibility also means it’s an ideal time for snorkeling and diving.

What you’ll see: This is a great time to see the local wildlife in action such as marine iguanas nesting, birds’ courtship displays and giant tortoises hatching. 

July – November

Temperatures:  This period marks the cooler season, with temperatures typically in the early to mid 20s, with the Humboldt Current bringing chillier seas too (so you may wish to wear a wet suit if you’re in the water for an extended period).

Rainfall: Rainfall isn’t high at this time of year, but there is still a fair amount of moisture in the air, so there can be a fair amount of cloud and mist.

Wind and waves:  You’ll potentially encounter rougher seas at this time of year, so if you do get seasick, consider being land based or book a more stable catamaran than traditional yacht.

What you’ll see: This is still a great time to visit, especially for those interested in bird watching and hiking. The Humbold current also brings nutrient-rich water so it’s a great time to see sea lions (pupping season is typically August – October), penguins, large schools of fish and even whale and other sharks.

June and December are of course cross over months!
