Where to Go in Hong Kong
Hong Kong Island forms the city’s iconic core, where glass towers rise dramatically above Victoria Harbour and neighbourhoods shift seamlessly from corporate polish to creative edge. Central and Admiralty hum with energy, while nearby Soho and Lan Kwai Fong offer a lively mix of restaurants and nightlife. For a different perspective, a trip up to Victoria Peak reveals sweeping views across the harbour, while Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun provide a more relaxed feel, blending traditional shops with contemporary cafés.
Across the water, Kowloon offers a more local, immersive experience, where the rhythm of daily life plays out against a backdrop of neon lights and bustling streets. Tsim Sha Tsui is the gateway, with its waterfront promenade, museums and views back to the skyline, while deeper into Kowloon, Mong Kok delivers vibrant markets, street food and an unmistakable sense of place that captures the city at its most authentic.
Beyond the urban energy, The Outlying Islands reveal a softer, slower side of Hong Kong. Lantau Island is the largest and home to the impressive Tian Tan Buddha, peaceful monasteries and family favourites such as Hong Kong Disneyland, while smaller islands like Cheung Chau and Lamma Island offer sandy beaches, seafood restaurants and scenic coastal walks that feel far removed from the city.
Often overlooked, The New Territories showcase Hong Kong’s greener, more traditional character, where hiking trails wind through lush hills, historic villages and quiet temples, offering a rewarding contrast to the fast-paced city. Tying it all together, Victoria Harbour remains the city’s defining feature, whether crossed by the Star Ferry or admired from the waterfront, especially at night when the skyline shimmers in a dazzling display of light.

Best Time to Visit Hong Kong
The best time to visit Hong Kong is generally considered in the Autumn or Spring when temperatures hover around 18 – 28 degrees Centigrade. However, whilst May – August can bring intense heat, rain and the potential for a typhoon, the City is well equipped with air conditioned bridges and tunnels to get around! Winter can be surprisingly chilly but late January – early February brings Chinese New Year celebrations.
