Coastal Cambodia
Shinta Mani Wild

Forget all ideas of camping as you know it, this tented, eco-adventure palace is gloriously and stratospherically a world apart from soggy sleeping bags! Lavish retreats swaying from the trees, or suspended above the rapids, provide the perfect base-camp for plotting adventures into the jungle; wildlife-spotting, expedition boating, foraging and even accompanying rangers from the Wildlife Alliance deep into the jungle clearing the forest of snares and mines.

And if that isn’t enough to release your inner Indiana Jones, then how about an arrival into the cocktail bar by Zip-Line before a nerve-steadying tropical gin?

Facilities & Activities

So, these begin with your very own private butler. Designed as a guide, a friend, a valet, these guys are also mind readers and will suggest bespoke activities to suit you, whether that be boat rides, hiking, hunting for orchids or just running you the perfect bath.

There is plenty to fill the days, even though tearing yourself from your tent and its view will be tricky. Trekking, kayaking, mountain biking, tubing, fly fishing, yoga, meditation – it’s all here for the taking. There are private exploration boats, perfect for wildlife spotting (and there is plenty to see) or the Foundation supports the local community with schooling, sponsorship and sustainable farming –tour the villages and get involved. For those after more of a heart-flipping adventure, then join the local rangers on the back of a motorbike and spend the day mine-clearing and trap hunting. Not your average day in Surrey then!

When you’ve exhausted all adventure possibilities then head for the 25m freshwater swimming pool before relaxing at the spa and enjoying home-made jungle-foraged potions – allegedly age-defeating…..

Open-air and decadent, the Waterfall Restaurant channels its inner ‘Jackie Kennedy’ safari – chic and beautifully eccentric. The clue is in the name; perched on the edge of a Waterfall with glorious views, there is no menu as such, all depends on that day’s foraging in the jungle carefully orchestrated together by the camp’s genius resident chef – it’s superfood tastic and super fresh. And if you fancy something not on the blackboard, he is happy to conjure up a dish for you.

Start the evening at the Landing Zone, an exciting cocktail extravaganza set over a waterfall (it’s the thing here) and set the tone by ziplining in (yes, you read that right, although maybe leave the cocktail dress in the tent for this one……) And just for another touch of charming eccentricity (another theme here), have a jungle cocktail party; a WW2 Land Rover will meet you at an agreed location before transforming into a bar right before your eyes! Cocktails under canopy? We can’t think of a better way to start an evening.

There are 15 ultra-exclusive tents dotted along the swishing river, some hovering directly over waterfalls and rapids. This is glamping on a different scale. These huge canvas palaces have an outdoor living area, delicious flamboyant touches, rain showers and beds so high and wide you might need a running jump.

Shinta Mani Wild’s vision is one of a high yield, low impact camp, with the main mission being a sustainable way to support the policing of the forest via Wildlife Alliance. They employ about 120 people, 70% from the local village. Shinta Mani Wild does not have any single use plastics, they bottle their own water and use recycled containers.

Found nestled within a trio of National Parks in South-West Cambodia, this tented luxury camp is on a private nature sanctuary of thick rainforest, rushing rivers and mesmerising waterfalls with Eco-tourism firmly at the forefront of all they do.

A transfer by private car from Phnom Penh is three hours or Sihanoukville is two and a half followed by a 20-minute 4×4 along the track deep into the jungle.
