The volcanic islands that make up Azores won’t disappoint and offer an activity for everyone, enjoy a fun adventure seeking holiday with the family, experiences include whale watching, cycling and kayaking in Sete Cidades and coasteering. There will also be plenty of time to sit back and relax in one of the islands thermal pools and spend time cooking Azorean meals the traditional way – underground!
Guide Price & Inclusions
4 nights in Ponta Delgado at The Grand and 3 nights at Terra Nostra costs £1,550 per adult and £1,050 per child under 12 sharing with breakfast, including flights and 5 exciting tours and activities.
Rates subject to travel dates and hotel selection
To extend your trip, we suggest spending time on some alternative islands. Pico, Faial and Sao Jorge form the so-called ‘Triangle’ – each with its own unique character!
Best Time to Travel
The best time for a trip to Azores is June – August as the temperature is at its nicest and the chance of rain or cloudy days are not likely.
Tips for Families
We recommend that you pre-book some restaurants as especially when in Ponta Delgada, these can get busy in the Summer months and they might be keen to eat early after working up an appetite!

DAY 1 | FLY TO AZORES
Fly from London to Azores (approx. 5 hours) and take a short taxi ride (payable locally) to your hotel.
DAY 2 | WHALE WATCHING (SWIM WITH DOLPHINS)
Join a whale watching boat trip and discover the beautiful landscapes around Sao Miguel island whilst getting up close to the whales in the Azorean waters. There is also opportunity to swim with the dolphins and learn more about their communities from a qualified marine biologist (supplement applies).
DAY 3 | CYCLE & KAYAK IN SETE CIDADES BY 4 X 4
Today set off on a guided 4 x 4 trip to Sete Cidades, passing through some stunning scenery and driving along the crater rim. You can also opt to take out a kayak on the green lagoon.
Alternatively, or in addition, admire Sete Cidades from above by exploring the area on bike, benefitting from incredible views of what used to be Azores’ most active volcano.
Today’s adventure is perfect for families with children over the age of 8.
DAY 4 | COASTEERING
The jagged coastline in Sao Miguel make it the perfect place for coasteering, you will start by putting on all the gear, including helmets, wetsuits and a life jacket. Then in your group you will hike over the rocks, explore the caves and jump into the ocean!
DAY 5 | TRANSFER & RELAX IN THERMAL POOLS
Today take a taxi (or hire a car and self drive) to Funas and check in to your hotel, spend the afternoon relaxing in the thermal pools, these hot springs are heated due to underground volcanoes and can even improve health by benefitting sleeping and reducing stress.
DAY 6 | UNDERGROUND COOKING
Today you will join one of the hotel chefs in making Azores’ traditional ‘cozido das furnas’ dish. After accompanying them to the local market, take part in a cooking class before burying your creation underground, where it will be cooked using the geothermal heat. It will then be served to you for dinner!
DAY 7 | LAGOA DO FOGO
Explore Lagoa do Fogo, a crater lake in Azores, known as the lake of fire. There are many hiking trails and green peninsulas to dive into, it truly is beautiful!
DAY 8 | FLY BACK TO LONDON
Today take a taxi back to the Airport, one last glimpse of this stunning island and fly back to the UK (approx. 5 hours).
