Bushbaby Travel: Inspiring travel for life
Hwange National Park

Zimbabwe - Family Safari Special! , Africa offers

During the months of Jan-Apr and Nov-Dec children 16 & under stay for free when sharing with parents (max 2 per room) at Imvelo Safari Lodges.

Hwange National Park

The lodges are offering a whole host of exciting and educational safari activities for the whole family to enjoy and here is just a sample......

As well as visiting the local community from Camelthorn or Bomani, (the lodges in the Ngamo area of Hwange National Park), youngsters also have the option of a horse ride – each outing is designed to fit the experience of the participants – or to spend time in the Look-up, a sunken hide at a waterhole where the wildlife can get up close, but where the observers will be safe from any potential danger.

Meanwhile, at Gorges Lodge near Victoria Falls, Imvelo has partnered with professional offshore rigger Andy Schultz to develop canyoning in the DibuDibu, which is a magical tributary gorge to the Batoka Gorge, complete with waterfalls and rock pools. Again, Andy can tailor the level of challenge of the route to the age, fitness and enthusiasm of the participants, but climbing, abseiling, rope-work, even swimming in the rock pools, is all on offer ( available for children aged 12 and above).

Canoeing on the Zambezi River is always a hit at Zambezi Sands, for youngsters too. Inflatable rubber canoes are used which are stable and easy to paddle – white-water is limited to shallow rapids which are great fun to run in a canoe – everyone will get wet, but this is all part of the fun to be had under the African sun!

At all of the lodges, kids thoroughly enjoy walking with one of our knowledgeable guides – all of whom have experience with kids and know just how to make a walk in the wilderness into some wild fun, where they will be looking for the ‘Little Five’: antlions, leopard tortoises, rhino beetles, buffalo weavers and elephant shrews!

    Gorges Lodge

    bushbaby rating:
    Four stars

Gorges and Little Gorges are a mere 30-minute drive from Victoria Falls town and offer a peaceful and idyllic base for your Victoria Falls safari adventure!

Perched 202m above the mighty Zambezi River, Gorges is famous for its spectacular views, described by some as the best in southern Africa; whether you are enjoying a cup of coffee at sunrise on your private veranda or a sundowner by the pool, you’ll be constantly drawn to the stunning vistas of the Batoka Gorge and the rushing waters of the Zambezi below. Small and welcoming, with rustic furniture and teak floors we love the unpretentious ambiance where the focus is very much on the views and the wildlife.

Little Gorges is perched on the edge of the Batoka Gorge next to main Gorges. This tented extension of Gorges overlooks the dramatic junction of the Dibu Dibu River and the Zambezi, where black eagles and lanner falcons nest in the sheer cliff faces. It’s a wonderful alternative to the main Gorges chalets while still providing all the same comforts.
