Sepilok Nature Lodge

Hidden amongst a veritable treasure trove of tropical plants, grasses, huge trees and spectacular orchids in bloom, the quaint bungalows of the resort are within walking distance of the world-famous Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, the precious home of the last wild Orangutans of Northern Borneo.

Combining traditional style with contemporary luxury, the hotel makes for an ideal starting point for your Borneo wildlife adventure, with the fauna rich Kinabatangan River and the surrounding Sukau area nearby too.

Facilities & Activities

The biggest attraction whilst staying in Sepilok is visiting the world renowned Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, just a few minutes walk away, where young captive or abandoned Orangutans are being helped by a highly trained and motivated team of staff to re-adjust to a life in the wild. The Lodge staff are also happy to organize birding, trekking and river trips to the neighbouring areas or you may also be able take a night walk with your guide to spot nocturnal wildlife in the grounds of the sanctuary such as nest orangutans, slow loris and tarsiers if you’re lucky.

Relaxing on the deck with a speciality milkshake or cocktail whilst enjoying the view of the beautiful natural lake at the heart of the lodge is a sight not to be missed. Being so close to the Orangutan sanctuary means you might even have a chance  of seeing orangutans throughout the day!

Dining in Sepilok brings you double pleasure! Whilst you feast on sumptuous but simple meals in the main dining area, featuring a charming traditional wooden interior, you can also take in the delightful view of the lake and beautiful rainforest backdrop. At night during dinner you’ll be serenaded with sounds of nocturnal creatures and insects of all kinds!  The menu showcases a fusion of local and western cuisines to suit all tastes.

Set in a spectacularly landscaped private area of manicured lawns and rolling hills, the fully air- conditioned (and very comfortable) chalets feature beautiful lake or jungle view verandas and private bathrooms with hot water.

The surrounding garden – which would take half a day to explore – offers and amazing array of tropical plants and grasses and a collection of more than one hundred and fifty different Asian orchid species.  You may even be lucky and spot a wild orangutan from the sanctuary as they are free roaming!

Children are very welcome and the resort can add an extra bed to most chalets.  For families of four, the resort may also have a larger chalet for up to 2 young children sharing if available.

We currently don’t hold any information regarding sustainability at the resort.
