Omani Explorer with Teens, Travel with Teens
If you're looking for a winter escape that ticks all the boxes for teens, Oman is a great destination that offers plenty to see and do beyond the allure of its beaches. The new and surprisingly traffic-free roads lend themselves to a stress-free self-drive holiday if you like a degree of independence. Enjoy the many and varied activities on offer in the desert and mountains before relaxation on the beach beckons - all-in-all the perfect adventure with a difference to share with your teens.

Fly overnight with Oman Air to Muscat where you'll stay for 2 or 3 nights. We recommend a stroll along the Corniche and a visit to the Muttrah souk, a maze of winding atmospheric streets, whilst the Grand Mosque showcases stunning Islamic architecture.
Next, it's time to get on the road; opt for a private driver/ guide transfer or pick up your rental car if self-drive is more your thing. Drive approx. 4 hours (dependent on camp choice) to the desert for an overnight stay under a canopy of stars. Desert Nights Camp offers fixed Bedouin-style air-conditioned tents - perfect for those who want a taste of Arabian adventure in comfortable surroundings. Enjoy camel rides around the camp and soak up magical sunsets from the top of a dune - whether you are a thrill-seeker or just looking to explore the desert’s hidden secrets, there are a whole host of other activities which can be arranged including dune-bashing, sand-boarding, quad-bikes, trekking, camel safaris and trips into the desert. Top tip - to avoid the day-trippers, stay overnight any day Sunday through to Thursday.
After your night under the starry skies, head to the Hajar Mountains (3-4 hours drive) for a contrasting but equally adventurous 2-night stay. Rising up out of the surrounding desert, these spectacular mountains reach a height of 3075m on Jabel Shams ('Mountain of the Sun'), which lies in Jabal Akhdar (‘Green Mountains’), at the heart of the range. Fed by wadis or water-holes, remarkably fertile gardens and plantations abound in this otherwise desert landscape. Trek some amazing passes and swim in wadis before returning to your mountain retreat in the afternoon for a top-notch meal and sunset views that will etch themselves in your holiday memories.
Following your adventurous foray into the mountains and desert, it's time to head back to Muscat for a blissfully relaxing 4 or 5-night beach stay, or take the one-hour flight south to Salalah for white-sands bordering the Arabian Sea. Both locations offer the opportunity to go dolphin-watching or try scuba-diving if your teens are keen to venture away from their sunbed!
On your final day, travel back to Muscat Airport for your afternoon flight back to the UK.
