A Week in the Bush, Friends & Family
Whether you only have a week to spare for half-term or are looking to combine South Africa with the Indian Ocean or Middle East, a week in two contrasting lodges makes for an unforgettable safari experience to share with friends and family.

Arrive Johannesburg after your overnight flight. Collect your hire-car/ meet your transfer driver for your journey to the malaria-free, Big Five, Madikwe Game Reserve (approx 4 - 5 hours). If budget allows, we recommend upgrading to a shuttle flight (approx 1 hour). You'll be welcomed for 4 nights in your luxury lodge. Game-drives take place at dawn and dusk in search of elephant, lion and the rare Wild Dog. For a special occasion, we can suggest some great 'sole use' lodges, typically sleeping 6 - 12 people, giving you private accommodation and your own game-drive vehicle.
After your stay in Madikwe, your driver will collect you or you can drive yourself to the Waterberg (approx 4 - 5 hours). You'll stay in your chosen lodge for 3 nights for your more 'active' safari experience. In the absence of lion and elephant, whilst game-drives are still on offer, it's safe for all ages to ride and walk with game such as white rhino and giraffe, enabling a much more 'up close and personal' experience with the animals as they are much more relaxed! Once again you can book out the lodge on a sole use basis, ensuring a completely personalised experience.
After your farewells, head back to Johannesburg airport (approx 3 hours) to connect with your overnight flight home.

If you have a little longer and a water park appeals, Sun City Resort makes for a good stop over en-route from Johannesburg to Madikwe for 2 nights. For something more educational, a stop over in the Cradle of Humankind is approx 90 mins north of the airport. Alternatively you can simply opt to stay in Johannesburg for a night or two, perhaps taking the opportunity to visit the Apartheid Museum or Soweto. There is also always the option of time on the beach in Mauritius for the ultimate trip, just a 4 - 5 hour flight from Johannesburg!
