Immerse yourself fully in the Yellowstone Park experience in this historic landmark building, just yards from the Old Faithful geyser. The first of the great park lodges in the American West and still thought to be the largest log structure in the world this hotel simply oozes historic charm.  The awe-inspiring multi-storey wooden lobby with its 85 foot stone fireplace is worth the visit alone. Accommodation is clean and basic, but what the inn lacks in luxury it makes up for in location and character - there’s a reason rooms get booked up a year in advance! When you tire of watching the park’s most impressive geyser the inn is the perfect base for exploring the world famous park. A stay here is truly a unique experience you will never forget.

Old Faithful Inn
  • rooms

The Inn’s 327 rooms range from the pricey larger suites with a sitting room, fridge and bathroom through to cheaper and modest one, two or three queen bed rooms with a vanity sink and shared bathroom. You will have to make an early reservation to get exactly what you want as the inn gets booked up a year in advance. Some rooms have views of Old Faithful itself. Accessible rooms are also available.

Accommodation is clean and comfortable, but many rooms are on the smaller side. There are no TVs, radios, internet access or air conditioning. But this is a spot that is all about unplugging yourself from the modern world - a rarely experienced joy in itself.

  • facilities & activities

Finished in 1904 from local logs and stone and maintained by the National Park Service the inn is not big on luxury and extras, but as an authentic rustic experience in the heart of perhaps the world’s most famous wilderness it’s hard to beat.

Regular evening performances of classical music in the breath-taking main lobby are an atmospheric treat you’ll find hard to forget. We think you’ll love curling up on one of the many old couches soaking up the history here as the building creaks and cracks and settles in for the night.

There are numerous tours available to make the most of Yellowstone. Take a wildlife tour at dawn or dusk for a chance to spot grizzly and black bears, bison, wolves, moose, elk, pelicans and eagles. Some tours even offer photographic tuition to help you take home photos that do the setting justice.

Horse lovers can enjoy trekking and stagecoach rides or an evening tour in a covered wagon that ends in a traditional cowboy campfire and meal.

Boating, fishing and scenic cruises abound and other spectacular geothermals in the park, fuelled by the Yellowstone Caldera the largest super volcano on the Continent, await too.

  • dining

The Old Faithful dining room provides an historic log cabin ambiance where you can enjoy hearty breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The Old Faithful Cafeteria serves up a wide variety of hot entrees, sandwiches, pastas and salads. The Bake Shop offer freshly baked cinnamon rolls, muffins, pretzels, deli sandwiches, fried chicken and cookies.

  • family

While there are no specific activities available for children here youngsters will be awestruck by the Old Faithful eruptions and historic setting. The relaxed atmosphere is very child-friendly. One of the great pleasures here is simply sitting in the lobby of an evening enjoying a family game of cards immersed in the sense of times gone by.

Children’s meals are available at all the dining outlets and babysitting can sometimes be arranged with good advance warning for a charge, though you must re-confirm at the time of booking.

Most rooms are able to accommodate up to four people with two queen beds. Travel cots are available on request, though it is best to make it clear at time of booking that you will require this as not all rooms can accommodate a cot bed.

If your family likes a larger room, the suites offer sitting rooms with a fridge and junior suites offer a sitting area. Not all rooms have their own bathroom – perhaps worth considering if your children make night time bedroom trips.

  • location

A three hour drive from Jackson Hole Airport through the spectacular scenery of first Teton National Park and then Yellowstone itself, your journey here will be a fascinating adventure of its own.

Once installed here in the heart of America’s oldest national park you can set off in a different direction every day to explore all there is to see - from grizzly bears and moose to stunning natural hot springs, rivers and canyons.

Just 100 yards from Yellowstone’s most famous landmark this is undoubtedly the best place to experience the natural wonder of Old Faithful. The inn’s second floor balcony is the perfect spot to observe the geyser doing its thing every 78 minutes day and night. Grabbing a coffee and pastry from the onsite deli and watching the show in your own time is what this place is all about. Late in the evening you can even have the experience all to yourself.
