Bushbaby Travel: Inspiring travel for life
Tulum

Yucatan Peninsula, Caribbean

The eighty-one mile coastline of the Riviera Maya stretches along Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsulaa. Starting just south of Cancun and extending to Tulum, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mayan world it is fronted by the second largest coral reef in the world.  With a definite nod to upmarket travel, white sandy beaches, azure blue waters, a myriad of water-sports and lush tropical jungle, this is one of those special regions where you only have to unpack once and yet it feels like you've experienced so much by the end of your holiday.

The region features unspoilt and uncrowded white beaches, providing access to the coral reef for world-class scuba diving and snorkelling with sea turtles.  However, the adventure really begins inland ... snorkel in a huge network of underground rivers and cenotes (deep pools) in the jungle for a unique experience to share with your fellow travellers. Kayaking, mountain-biking and zip-lining are also on the cards for those seeking an active holiday.  Do also include a visit to the Mayan ruins and whilst Chichen Itza is quite a journey (approx 2 hours travel, but most think well worth it), wandering around Tulum still makes for a fascinating morning -complete with iguana spotting for a brush with the local wildlife.

Enjoy a warm but professional welcome from your Mexican hosts, wherever you stay, along with tasty food and some surprisingly good local wines.
