Alila Jabal Akhadar
  • rooms

Blending in seamlessly with its surroundings, Alila Jabal Akhdar has been built using local stone and wood. Low-key, yet rather wonderful, the contemporary design with its dry-stone walls, solid dark wood, Oman-inspired artefacts and a delicate rose pattern that adorns the lobby all blend together to create a unique sense of calm.
There is a choice of 86 rooms, suites and private villas either within the main hotel building or arranged in clusters around the grounds. The décor is soft and earthy, using natural wood and stone that has been highlighted by beautiful rugs and bold furnishings; a simple juniper branch has been hand-painted on one white wall in every suite by a local artist, bringing an element of nature indoors; a delightful finishing touch. All of the rooms include air conditioning, flat screen satellite TV, Wi-Fi, coffee/tea making facilities, in-room safe, gourmet bar and a balcony or terrace. The bathrooms include a rain shower and lavish free standing bath, and luxurious Spa Alila amenities. All rooms have fabulous mountain views.
You can choose from Mountain, Horizon and Ridge View Suites, but if you want a little more space there are further options. As well as a spacious indoor living area, the Jabal Terrace has a large outdoor deck perfect for enjoying sunsets or stargazing. The Loft Suite offers accommodation over two floors, and with two bathrooms would suit a family. If you’re looking for something really special, then try the Jabal Villas which come with their own private pool, steam room and Jacuzzi!

  • facilities & activities

Thanks to its elevated position, Alila Jabal Akhdar brings welcome respite from the desert heat, so you can comfortably relax outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air. At the hub of the resort there is a heated indoor plunge pool, and an exquisite heated outdoor infinity pool, which looks out over the vast canyon below. Loungers and stone cabanas on the surrounding terrace invite you to unwind and relish the beguiling tranquillity this resort radiates. There is a stylish lobby, free Wi-Fi throughout, a games room, fantastic library, and the delightful Rose Lounge should you want to seek sanctuary inside. There’s also a state-of-the-art gym, if you feel inclined.
For the ultimate indulgence, treat yourself to a visit to the Spa Alila. Inspired by local traditions and ingredients, there are a wide range of treatments including massage, reflexology, pedicures, facials, and body scrubs. There are seven treatment and changing rooms, including a Vichy shower room, Jacuzzis and an amazing steam room with an evocative scent of frankincense and juniper berries – you’ll be transported back to ancient Oman.
Every guest is supplied with a rucksack upon arrival, which may give you some indication of the kind of activity on offer here! Alila Jabal Akhdar is the perfect base for exploring the region’s magnificent landscape of rugged, untouched beauty. The area is renowned for growing walnuts, pomegranates and damask roses; when they are in full bloom from March to May the mountain side is swathed pink by their bushes cascading down the mountainside; an extraordinary sight to behold.
The hotel’s Leisure Concierges love to share their expertise and passion for the region and there are a variety of tailored treks on offer around the resort. You can hike through the mountains, walk through villages, mountain bike through crowds of juniper trees, discover castles, forts and souks, or explore sand dunes on a desert drive. If you’re interested in history you can explore the many heritage sites in the cities of Nizwa, Bahla and Ebri. Nizwa is just over an hour’s drive away and has a fantastic 17th century fort; it’s worth climbing to the top of its tower for the breathtaking views of the surrounding date plantations and the Hajar Mountains.

  • dining

Dining is a sophisticated and stylish affair at Alila Jabal Akhdar. Taking its name from the aromatic evergreen trees that thrive in these mountains, the Juniper Restaurant offers an international menu with Middle Eastern influences. Fresh and seasonal local produce are utilised to create gastronomic delights including mezze of hummus, baba ganoush and tabbouleh, salads of fresh pomegranate and feta, and fragrant tagines. Chic décor of dark wood and stone complement the refined atmosphere, but it is the incredible view that makes this place so special.
If you’re looking for a lighter meal, or just want to enjoy a drink then relax in the softly lit Rose Lounge; a great spot to enjoy a sundowner overlooking the awe-inspiring canyon. Refreshments can also be enjoyed around the pool, and if you would prefer to stay in the privacy of your own room, room service is available for breakfast and light snacks.

  • family

Families are made to feel very welcome at Alila Jabal Akhdar. While there are no specific activities for children, they will love the pools, there is a games room, and the spa even offers a children’s massage for 6-12 year olds. Babysitting services are also available upon request.
The Loft Suite is ideal for families; found in the main hotel building it offers plenty of space over two floors, with a living area and bathroom downstairs and a bedroom with en-suite upstairs, as well as an outdoor terrace with sun loungers, dining table and chairs.
The resort is in a high mountainous region and sits by the edge of cliffs opening out on to ravines and deep gorges. Due to the uneven terrain, it is strongly advised that guests keep their children under constant supervision.
