Galapagos Safari Camp Landscape
  • rooms

Sited in a stunning setting, are nine luxury tents, all located below the main lodge. Emulating the African Safari tradition, they are constructed on wooden platforms, and composed of three layers: one to protect against the sun, another against the rain and an inner canvas shell. Inside they are spacious (27m2), and their custom-made furniture was designed with comfort, practicality and elegance in mind. Twin beds can be joined to become one queen bed; and there are cupboards, a writing desk and a fan/heater for temperature control. A sofa bed can be added for children under 12. The en suite bathrooms are tastefully designed with hot power showers and flush toilets. All the tents have a large balcony with a hammock and chairs from which to take in the wonderful view.

In addition, the Galapagos Safari Camp offers a three-bedroom suite, sleeping up to 6 people. Its location next to the main lodge makes it an ideal option for families who favour more private lodging. The suite features a master bedroom and two twin rooms, all with en suite bathrooms.

  • facilities & activities

The centrepiece of this luxury tented camp is the main lodge, perched on a hill, with panoramic views from its expansive veranda. The open-plan interior draws the eye to the islands dotted on the horizon. There is a lounge for relaxation featuring stylish seating and a cosy fireplace.

The viewpoint is a spectacular place for yoga, private lunches or cocktails at sunset. It comprises an eating area as well as a comfortable lounge, and events can be organized upon request.

    Activities
The infinity pool is an ideal place for guests to enjoy the nature and tranquility while cooling down on hot days.

On the 55 acre farm you can spend time walking, bird watching and spotting giant tortoises, pottering amongst the tents. The vegetation is lush and the terrain is volcanic so good walking shoes are required. There are a number of wonderful viewpoints from which to observe birds or simply relax. The farm is very rich in birdlife, including finches, warblers, mockingbirds, Galapagos doves, egrets and owls.

The area around the farm – the highlands of Santa Cruz – is a mixture of rich vegetation, agricultural land and the Galapagos National Park. There are a number of attractions, from the tortoise reserve to lava tunnels and extinct craters. Walking, cycling or horse-riding trips can be arranged upon request.

The lowlands of Santa Cruz Island boast pristine turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. You can snorkel, dive, kayak, surf or swim. The main town, Puerto Ayora, is vibrant and lively, with several restaurants, shops and galleries.

Of course, a stay in the Galapagos wouldn’t be the same without boat excursions to see the stunning wildlife and scenery. These can all be arranged, as can scuba-diving, family and special interest safaris. For those who wish to visit other islands, a stay at Galapagos Safari Camp combined with a short cruise and diving/ snorkelling trips to neighbouring islands are an alternative option.

  • dining

The dining room in the main lodge serves delicious local and international dishes created using home-grown produce. There is also an honesty bar available for guests.

  • family

The Galapagos Safari Camp is family run by a couple with young children, and the setting is very child-friendly, with plenty to younger visitors.

The luxury tents can all be configured with a sofabed for children aged under 12yrs sharing with their parents. Alternatively, if you prefer more space, the family suite is the perfect solution.

Children will love the wildlife all around and activities can be tailored to individual family requirements.

The Galapagos really is the ultimate family destination- a trip to the zoo pales in comparison. The Galapagos Safari Camp offers the perfect compromise for families looking for a land-based visit.

  • location

Galapagos Safari Camp is situated on the last farm before the National Park, West of Santa Cruz, where the difference between introduced and endemic flora is at its most apparent. Its location is strategic in the control of further invasions propagating into transit-zone park land. An eradication and reforestation project is being conducted at GSC with the assistance of Conservation International and the guidance of the Botany Department at the Charles Darwin Foundation. As a result of the conservation work undertaken to date, many local species of tree, such as scalesia, guayabillo and palo santo, are rapidly regaining a foothold after years of cattle farming.
