Visitors to the Galapagos, looking for an alternative to a cruise or perhaps as a beach stay afterwards, should definitely take a look at Finch Bay. One of the National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World and the only beachfront hotel on Santa Cruz Island, this charming eco-friendly retreat is all about the location. Surrounded by mangroves in the midst of the Galapagos National Park, it fronts one of the islands most picturesque beaches but lies within easy reach of Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Centre - just a water-taxi ride away. With its very own yacht, land-based certainly doesn't mean land-locked! Guests can opt in to various programmes and day trips, giving a unique insight into the wonderful biodiversity and ecosystems found on Santa Cruz and the neighbouring central islands, with all the incredible wildlife encounters that entails. Little ones will have no end of material for their next school show and tell session! Activities include mountain-biking, scuba-diving, snorkelling with sea turtles, bird-watching, visits to see giant tortoises and sea kayaking.

Interiors are calm, fresh and contemporary - leaving the outside landscape to speak for itself. After time spent exploring, return to the hotel to soak up soothing ocean views from your private balcony, perhaps take a dip in the outdoor pool in the company of herons, finches and pelicans or indulge in a spa treatment, before enjoying a seafood feast for dinner. What better way to end a day of discovery and wonder than to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves outside...
