Tortuguero, Costa Rica
Take a boat trip through mangroves to the Caribbean coastal village of Tortuguero, on Costa Rica’s North-Eastern coast. See the rustic Caribbean architecture and explore the stunning national park, teeming with wildlife including monkeys, toucans, crocodiles and frogs. Turtles come here every year to lay their eggs on the beach… an amazing sight to behold. During nesting season, there are daily evening turtle tours.
As a relatively remote destination, Tortuguero is perhaps best reached by plane, but otherwise most lodges include round trip transfers from San Jose in their rates. This necessitates a stay in the Central Valley or San Jose the night before and then a journey time of approx. 5-7 hours depending on stops, including some rather bumpy road sections and a boat journey of approx. 45 minutes from the port of Cano Blanco.
