The Xandari has been named as one of 9 outstanding hotels in the world for best authentic architecture. You will see examples of original art everywhere here, from paintings, tapestries, mosaics, quilts and stained glass to collages and sculptures.

The 24 individually designed villas feature floor to ceiling windows to make the most of the wonderful views. Created to reflect the gardens and Costa Rican culture, each spacious villa is surrounded by gardens and has a large viewing terrace for enjoying the sunset and lights of the valley at night, plus a walled–in terrace for privacy and solitude. The design of the villas allows for natural ventilation removing the need for air-conditioning.

There are 5 categories of villa, but they are all entirely individual and equipped with either king-size or twin double beds and a private terrace. Bathrooms are finished with bright tiles and have imaginatively designed showers, some with curved walls which continue outside into the private garden making it seem like an outdoor shower.

Prima Plus Villas have seating areas and some villas are particularly generously sized with additional beds for children.

Swim in one of the 60ft long lap pools, or enjoy relaxing by the beautiful sunset pool overlooking the Central Valley. For lazy evenings, there is a TV room with a choice of DVDs to watch.

The lovely spa village, with its 5 private palm–roofed jalapas, is set in tropical gardens and includes jacuzzis and wonderful views over the Central Valley.

Guests enjoy strolling through the botanic gardens interspersed with sculptures, and visiting the orchid house and greenhouse. Alternatively, you can hike one of the many private scenic trails, to be rewarded by river vistas and dramatic waterfalls.

The hotel can organise day trips to see Poas Volcano, or one of the nearby coffee plantations and for the more adventurous, there are options such as rafting (additional charges apply).

The indoor/outdoor restaurant features a healthy continental and Costa Rican menu. Much of the fruit and vegetables are produced organically on site. Children will love the delicious breakfast buffet served on the terrace with butterflies and tropical birds flying overhead and it goes without saying, that the views are breathtaking.

family

Families can expect a warm welcome and, whilst it might not have the more obvious traits of a family hotel, such as a kids club, there is a lot that children will love about the villas and grounds. The charming, informal atmosphere makes for a relaxing family holiday and the staff go out of their way to be helpful and friendly to guests of all ages.

The Star Villa is particularly well suited to families, having its own kitchen and garden as well as 2 bedrooms. It is also well-sited for the lovely sunset pool.

Alternatively, the Ultra and Ultra Plus Villas have spacious lounge areas and generous outside terraces. Cots and extra beds can be provided on request.

location

The hotel is located in Alajuela, just 20 minutes from San José Juan Santamaria International Airport and a little further from San Jose itself. 
The closest airport is San José International Airport. It is possible to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel, but we recommend pre-booking a transfer with us instead for peace of mind.
