Nestled in Costa Rica’s lush cloud forest, in the mountain-tops of the Monteverde Reserve, the venerable Hotel Belmar offers a luxury experience where guests can soak up the natural surroundings whilst enjoying the elegance and warm friendly service for which the hotel is renowned. Family-owned and run, there is an admirable commitment to sustainable tourism. Two thirds of the hotel’s beautiful 9-acre grounds are composed of pristine cloud forest, home to many endangered species. It's also a part of the Bellbird Biological Corridor. The hotel has a short self-guided trail for guests to explore and the property is located at the entranceway to a few other trails, notably Cerro Amigos, which is the highest mountain in the entire region. On clear days you can see the Pacific, Arenal Volcano, and sometimes even glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean.

    The hotel offers various room categories.

    In the main building are the Peninsula Rooms which are recommended for anyone who needs accessible accommodation. Located on the first floor of the hotel these rooms have two queen size beds and a wooden balcony with views of the Peninsula and extensive gardens. Although the temperature in Monteverde is usually quite pleasant, all Peninsula Rooms also have a ceiling fan for added comfort. Peninsula Superior Rooms are located on the top floor and are ideal for couples, benefitting from private comfortable terraces with views of the Nicoya Peninsula and an open bathroom concept. These rooms are configured with a king-size bed.

    The Chalet Rooms consist of Forest Rooms, Forest Superior Rooms, Belmar Rooms in addition to the Canopy Room, Sunrise and Sunset Rooms.

    Forest Rooms are located steps away from the Hotel’s private cloud forest, adjacent to the Monteverde Preserve. Enjoy floor to ceiling windows, spacious bathrooms with bath or shower, hardwood finishings, and generous balconies with beautiful arabesque tiles and stunning views of the forest outside. Available with one king-size bed. Forest Superior Rooms also offfer a glass-enclosed Jacuzzi and a living area. Available with one king-size bed or one king and one queen-size bed we recommend these for families.

    Belmar Rooms are perfect for honeymooners or couples. These beautiful rooms offer 270-degree views of the Nicoya Peninsula and a modern, open-concept bathroom (separate toilet booth) finished with natural stone travertine tiles, a double marble vanity, and a two-person whirlpool Jacuzzi looking out onto the Pacific Ocean or the Cloud Forest Preserve.

    Located in the penthouse of the chalet, the Canopy Room is surrounded by the wildlife of Monteverde forests. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, inches away from the trees and a terrace overlooking the mountains of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, these rooms place your in the midst of nature. Take your bathing experience to another level by enjoying a dip in your private whirlpool Jacuzzi next to giant strangler figs.

    The Sunrise Room, offers 270-degree views of the mountains of the Monteverde Cloud Forest on one side and the Nicoya Peninsula on the other. Enjoy an incredible bird-watching experience from your private terrace, or unwind in your two-person whirlpool Jacuzzi while enjoying views of the Gulf of Nicoya in the distance. With massive floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides, this room offers the very best views in the entire hotel. Includes a large bathroom finished with natural stone travertine tiles, a double marble vanity, a large open-concept shower overlooking the forest, as well as a sitting area.The

    The Sunset Room offers floor-to-ceiling windows featuring some of the best views of the Pacific Ocean and the neighboring valleys in the distance, as well as the mountains of the Monteverde Cloud Forest to the side. With a grand terrace featuring an outdoor whirlpool Jacuzzi, as well as a spacious bathroom with forest views and a sitting area it is a great choice for couples.

    Perched atop the highest peak of the hotel's lush cloud forest property are the Suites offering both luxury and seclusion. Featuring a large bedroom with king-size bed and hardwood finishings, double aspect floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the forest and the Nicoya Peninsula, the suite includes an en-suite, fully-furnished living area with private bar and writing desk; as well as a spa-style bathroom with a forest view shower, a small indoor garden, an adjacent sitting area, and a double vanity. Providing unparalleled access to the natural surroundings, this suite also features a 25 sq. mts terrace with a full-size daybed and a whirlpool Jacuzzi. *Designed to offer maximum privacy, please note these suites are located a three story walk up a separate building 100m from the lobby.

    For the ultimate treat, stay in the Penthouse Suite, located on the top floor, boasting the most expansive views yet of the sunset over the Gulf of Nicoya.

    It's all about immersing yourself in nature here. 

    Families will appreciate the many things on offer that are sure to fascinate younger guests. Perhaps a farm tour appeals - milking cows, watching the cheese-making, picking coffee beans or straining sugar cane for a sweet post-hike drink. Children will love meeting the farm animals - cows, pigs, goats, chickens and horses and then what better way to round things off than a horse-riding excursion. Suitable for all skill levels, a bi-lingual guide will lead you through the farm, over small streams and through the beautiful countryside. This kind of immersion in nature is perfect for families that want an authentic farm experience while learning and exploring how the environment sustains us everyday.

    The hotel also organise a variety of hikes - from a 3.5 hour guided hike through the cloud-forest with an expert naturalist guide, to a night nature hike and a hike especially aimed at bird-watchers.

    For anyone looking to brush up their dinner party skills, the garden to glass cocktail class is a great one - enjoy crafting signature cocktails and return home with some nifty mixology skills.

    There's even photography lessons so you can ensure you capture some stunning images of the the nature all around you.

    Please note that there is no pool at the hotel.

    It's not just about the wonderful fresh farm-to-table dishes at Restaurante Celajes, it's also about the incredible balcony views over the Pacific Ocean and the warm and friendly service. Much of the food comes from the hotel’s organic garden and the Belmar family farm and the menu is focused on simple, balanced Costa Rican inspired cuisine. Celajes is open for breakfast from 6:30am to 10am, lunch from 12pm to 3pm, and dinner from 6pm until 9pm, with a reduced bar menu between lunch and dinner. Reservations are suggested for dinner.

    Breakfasts on the restaurant veranda are a guest favourite - the a la carte menu features fresh cheese, organic coffee, free range eggs and bacon from the farm. There is also the occasional Sunday Brunch with live music and for the ultimate indulgence why not enjoy breakfast in bed, on your terrace or by your hot tub.

    As you'll no doubt want to make the most of your stay by being out and about during the day; the hotel are happy to provide a picnic lunch including wine, beverages, and dessert.

    if you are celebrating a special occasion or just want some extra privacy, you might want to opt for a private dinner prepared by the chef especially for you. Savour your meal under the stars on your own terrace with a custom-prepared menu wine or champagne, and your own personal waiter to tend to your every need (advance booking required).

    The hotel also offers room service from midday to 9pm, and the Juice Bar menu is available from 10am to 6pm.
