  • rooms

The 42 rooms range from two-person Casitas and Staterooms to roomier Suites and large Villas that sleep up to ten guests. All rooms have air conditioning, and the best have sea views (others have garden views) and private verandas with loungers and hammocks. There is a tropical feel to the rooms, with terracotta floors, wicker fans and four-poster beds with white net curtains. The entry-level Staterooms have shared balconies, while the seven Casitas have thatched roofs, terraces and queen beds. The Suites and Villas are larger, more private and more luxurious.

  • facilities & activities

With two pools – including one infinity edged pool overlooking the ocean – and a swimming area at the end of the dock, there are plenty of options for water lovers. Those keen for more action could make use of the hotel’s complimentary bicycles and kayaks, or try stand-up paddle boarding ($10/hour). Keen divers are well catered for with an onsite dive shop, and there is a good range of activities and excursions available, such as snorkelling at the nearby Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Fishing, scuba diving and yoga classes can also be arranged.

A standalone spa offers 36 different treatments, including Mayan-inspired treatments that use local honey and coconut oil. The fitness centre has showers and a pretty courtyard that’s ideal for yoga groups.

  • dining

Choose from three dining options. With options for indoor and outdoor dining, Palmilla Restaurant is the main food hub, featuring elegant white tablecloths and a view towards the pool and sea beyond. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it serves everything from fresh conch ceviche to beef tenderloin and grilled lobster.

Extending from Palmilla Restaurant onto the pool deck, the Poolside Patio is ideal for al fresco dining, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. For a casual, Belizean-style palapa bar on the beach, head to Admiral Nelson’s Beach Bar. Open from lunch until late evening, it has the best views of the Caribbean Sea and serves snacks ranging from chicken wings to burgers and pizzas.

  • family

Parents travelling with one child can book a Plantation Room or Infinity Suite, which both fit a rollaway bed. There are also two-bedroom Infinity Suites that feature a king and queen bed and a rollaway. Staterooms and Casitas sleep a maximum of two guests. For extra space, families could go for the Luxury Villas and the Casa Playa Blanca villa, which both have two bedrooms. The Casa del Sol villa has three bedrooms, while the Casa Azul is the largest accommodation option, with five bedrooms featuring a king-sized bed in each.

A children’s menu is available, and babysitting services are also offered.
