Classic junior suites sleeping one child are the best bet for smaller families. Superior Rooms are a little smaller, but still sleep a maximum of three adults or two adults and one child. Interconnecting rooms are available for Junior Suites, Ocean Junior Suites and Prestige Junior Suites (on purchase and availability).

Inside, the decor is effortlessly elegant, with natural wood furnishings and a muted colour scheme. Some rooms feature whirlpool tubs or outdoor showers, and they all offer fully furnished terraces that are ideal relaxing with a morning coffee.

The hotel’s natural surroundings provide a wealth of activities to try, including three-hour guided hikes through lush jungle or to the top of Le Morne mountain for excellent panoramic views. The pristine beach has crystal clear waters with no tides, and a sheltered, specially reserved area for swimming and snorkelling. Take a guided bike ride or even enjoy a day trip to the private island of Ile De Deux Cocos – all bookable at the touch of a button from your hotel room. Children will particularly love the thrill of swimming with dolphins on an excursion, where guides film the action on a GoPro for you to play back later.

An excellent kite-surfing school is located just 300 metres away from the hotel, and is regarded as the best place to learn the sport on the island. A ‘kite concierge’ service offers added luxury - storing your kit and setting it up so your kite is airborne and ready to use upon arrival.

Three sculptured swimming pools - two featuring swim-up bars - curve through the grounds and there's a lovely LUX* Me spa that offers personalised treatments, as well as yoga and meditation.

Your appetite will certainly be satisfied here. Watch the chefs at work in The Kitchen, the open-plan, central restaurant, serving fresh buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Beach is open for lunch and dinner, and serves Mediterranean dishes such as pizza in a wonderful beachfront setting. For a fine-dining dinner, East offers excellent Thai fare. This restaurant is not included in the meal plan, but a discount of MUR 800 is applied on the food bill per person per meal.

Swim up for a cocktail at Ilot and Oasis, or snack beneath the shade on the veranda at The Bar. Coffee is good here (sample it at Cafe Lux*) because it's LUX* own brand, and there’s 24-hour room service.

family

Though the hotel oozes romance, there are plenty of family-friendly touches, too. There are two children’s clubs, Play and teen club Studio 17. PLAY caters for children from three to 11, and is run by a highly trained and enthusiastic team. Activities range from high-energy sports to explorations to discover the island’s incredible nature, including include art classes and treasure hunts. It is open daily from 9am to 10pm, with meal options available.

Studio 17 is for children aged 12 to 17, and offers everything from tennis, dance and language lessons to beach sports and adventure trips around the island. Open until 8pm, there are also pool tables and board games available, as well as a ‘DJ zone’ where youngsters can learn how to spin the decks.

Tucked beneath the foot of the majestic Le Morne mountain, the hotel sits happily on a beautiful stretch of white sand on the UNESCO-protected south-west side of Mauritius. It’s the ideal position to watch sunsets in the evening, overlooking the sea teeming with frolicing dolphins. Le Morne is the best place on the island to learn kitesurfing - and the world-famous kiting spot 'One Eye' is nearby. It’s an easy 1 hour transfer from the airport.
