Scattered amongst the lush surrounds of Thala Beach Lodge you will find the delightful accommodation that has been cleverly designed to complement and blend into the natural environment. Built from natural, sustainable materials these deluxe bungalows are built high on stilts nestled in the forest canopy. They all have spectacular views either to the beachfront or the rainforest mountains and feature air conditioning, TV/DVD/CD player, en-suite bathrooms and a private timber decked verandah.

There are four different types of accommodation; you can choose from the Sandpiper Suite which has been luxuriously furnished and has a spacious bedroom and lounge area. Perched on the headland with exquisite views over Thala’s two secluded beaches, this is a supremely private and romantic hideaway. The Coral Sea Bungalow has magnificent views over and through the treetops to the ocean; an exciting location, you may be able to see Ospreys, Bryde’s Whales or a pod or rare Australian Snub Fin Dolphins from the comfort of your verandah. The Eucalypt and Jungle Walk Bungalows are individually placed throughout the Eucalypt and tropical forests, perfect for watching birds and butterflies.

Enjoy the breathtaking views over the Coral Sea from the circular guest lounge and reading room, stroll under the coconut palms on the private tropical beach or drink cocktails in this tranquil haven at the end of a hard day’s exploring. There are a selection of indulgent treatments to be enjoyed in the relaxing spa, two freeform swimming pools with grottoes, waterfalls and Jacuzzis and over 2km of private sandy beaches and sheltered coves to explore.

There is even a lovely boutique selling gifts and holiday essentials, Australian opals and handcrafted jewellery displays, and a fantastic art gallery displaying beautiful works by local artists. For golf enthusiasts there is a world class 18 hole championship golf course only 10 minutes away.

As a guest of Thala Beach Lodge you are offered complementary on site experiences that will make your stay even more memorable. These include bird watching, wildlife and cultural talks, and star gazing. If you want to venture further afield there is an Adventure Desk to help organise tours; there are opportunities to enjoy the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, turtle spotting, sea kayaking, snorkelling and diving, rainforest walks, and fishing – the list goes on.

With its magnificent setting, high amongst the treetops, Ospreys Restaurant enjoys uninterrupted views for over 100km. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed here and the sensational views make it an ideal location for a sundowner. The seasonal menu places a real emphasis on fresh local produce and coupled with the view of the ocean and forest with its stunning birdlife and wildlife, this makes for a fantastically unique dining experience.

The Masked Plover bar is open throughout the day and overlooks the pool as well as the stunning vista shared with the restaurant. A great place for a relaxed cocktail and a chat about the day's explorations.

If you’re looking for something a little more casual then there is Herbie’s Beach Shack where you can enjoy fresh seafood, stunning sunsets and cold beer aplenty. Picnics can also be enjoyed on your balcony or at the beach or if you fancy a trip out there is a regular shuttle service that leaves Thala’s reception for Port Douglas (only 10 minutes away) where you will find a fabulous choice of cafes and restaurants.

family

Families are welcome at Thala Beach Lodge and are really made to feel at home. It is an ideal location for school aged children and above, who are old enough to be fascinated by the natural surroundings, wildlife and enjoy the unique accommodation in a rainforest tree top bungalow.

The surrounding rainforest and reed will provide families with a huge range of adventures and activities to explore; younger guests will particularly enjoy playing on the sandy beach, nature walks, star gazing and of course the fantastic swimming pools with their grottoes and waterfalls.

Younger guests are welcome in the restaurant or picnics can be enjoyed on your balcony or at the beach. Port Douglas nearby also has a great variety of child-friendly restaurants.

Families are accommodated in two adjacent Bungalows, with the option of either a king bed or twin single beds, and additional rollway beds if required. Babysitting can be arranged with prior notice at an additional charge.

Set in 145 acres of natural forest, Thala Beach Lodge is situated 38 kilometres north of the city of Cairns and 15 kilometres south of Port Douglas on the coastal road between the tropical rainforest of North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef.

Cairns International Airport is about a 50 minute drive away and complimentary valet parking is available.
