Chen Sea Resort & Spa

Chen Sea Resort & Spa, Southern Vietnam

In our opinion this is a gem of a resort; its charm lies in the simple, understated elegance and the aura of tranquillity that pervades from the moment you arrive. With only 36 intimate villas dotted throughout the banana tree-lined gardens, it always feels calm. The natural setting between the green forests of Phu Quoc and the ocean add to the sensation of feeling cocooned in your own private hideaway. Spend your days relaxing by the huge infinity pool in the tropical gardens before sundowners and dinner against the backdrop of iridescent sunsets.

Chen Sea Resort & Spa
  • rooms

There are four types of villa  and all are beautifully decorated in a simple Vietnamese style. Beachfront Villas enjoy a private sun-terrace with direct access onto the beach, whilst the slightly larger Sea View Villas are set higher up and are oriental in style with private terraces and ocean views. The Jacuzzi Villa includes an atrium area with a fresh water outdoor spa pool.

The Two Bedroom Villas with pool are designed with the traditional timber Hoi An houses in mind and feature a private sun terrace with an outdoor pool overlooking the sea.

  • facilities & activities

It’s all about soaking up the tranquil atmosphere, enjoying the Olympic-sized infinity pool and stunning beach but there are plenty of other attractions. The more energetic can enjoy a range of water-sports including kayaking, wind-surfing, wake-boarding and sailing. Try your hand at snorkelling or scuba-diving with the resident professional instructors - it's the best way to explore the coral reef, home to thousands of neon-coloured fish. There is biking, volleyball or perhaps enjoy a cookery class so you can master some of the local Vietnamese recipes. Recover from your exertions or just treat yourself anyway with an indulgent treatment at the beautiful spa.

Despite its location in the quieter area of the island, the resort is within easy striking distance of the island’s land-marks and attractions, including Suo Tranh Falls, Duong Dong - with its bustling harbour and riverside markets, or the Nguven Trung Truc Temple.

  • dining

The in-house restaurant is a treat; run by Italians, the menu is a mix of Italian, continental and local dishes and the seafood is always freshly caught. While the chic setting and large terrace is truly delightful, a private dinner on the beach or in your room can also be arranged.

The beach-front bar GHE serves light-bites all day, as well as cocktails and fresh juices but we’d recommend an aperitif at sundown, just in time to watch the colours erupt over the sea.

  • family

The resort is ideal for families looking to relax and spend some down-time together. Those with teens or the more active may want to be slightly nearer to the centre of the island, where there is more going on in the evenings, although it’s only a 30-minute drive to the action. However, all water-sports and activities are complimentary here, so you might find teens are happy to stay on resort!

Sea View and Beachfront Villas have 2 pairs of interconnecting rooms (double and twin) and the Two Bedroom Pool Villa will accommodate 2 extra beds, which is a great option for a family.

  • location

Nestled on the remote island of Phu Quoc, on the southern coastline of Vietnam, this resort was one of the first luxury hotels built on the island and carved out its own sanctuary on the pristine sand beach. It remains the quieter part of the island and the serene location is part of the attraction. Flying is the most convenient way of getting to the island and there are at least 10 daily flights from Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. From there, the airport shuttle will take you to the resort or a private transfer can be organised on request.
