Pimalai Resort & Spa, South West Thailand
MenuSurrounded by lush tropical forests, pristine sands, the sparkling azure Andaman Sea, Pimalai Resort & Spa fully lives up to its Sanskrit namesake of ‘a little patch of heaven’. Despite being perched on one of The Sunday Times’ 10 Best Tropical Beaches of the World List, the resort has managed to retain an untouched and peaceful ambience giving a taste of Thailand before the tourists. However, the fabulous facilities, impeccable service and decadent restaurants means it sits firmly at the top of the list of the 5-star resorts on this breath-taking island.

rooms
There are a variety of stunning rooms to choose from here, dotted amongst the verdant greenery overlooking the sea. Deluxe Rooms have plenty of space and private balcony while the BayView Deluxe have huge verandas with astounding views.
The one- and two-bedroom Pavilion Suites are lower down, located just a stone’s throw from the beach and offer luxurious oceanside accommodation.
The signature Villas more than live up to their reputation and the one, two and three bedrooms offer plenty of options for families. The Hillside Ocean View Villas are found high up in the tropical hills, while the Beachside Villas are set on the white sands below. Both enjoy their own private infinity pools with spectacular views.

facilities & activities
If you can tear yourself away from the large infinity pool, set 200ft above sea level with spectacular views, it’s an easy saunter along the pristine white sands to the smattering of local shops and laid-back bars just along the shore. There are sports activities to keep all family members entertained; rejuvenate in the award-winning spa, hone your skills at the Muay Thai academy and enjoy the complimentary yoga classes, kayaking, paddle-boarding and sailing. There are snorkelling trips to nearby islands and a PADI Dive centre for those wanting to explore the underwater treats – frankly all holiday boxes are firmly ticked here!

dining
With a choice of three restaurants and two poolside cafes, you won’t go hungry! Seven Seas is super-smart, offering European fusion cuisine under the stars. If you are more the ‘sand-between-the-toes type’, then Rak Talay has fresh local seafood and home-made sundowners. Or for traditional Thai, head to Spice and Rice for delicious, locally sourced and traditional dishes.

family
Families are very welcome here. However, while the beach is gently sloping with calm waters and there is a Kid’s Corner for 2–7 year olds we think this resort is best for teens. No bedroom’s interconnect, and all the villas have unfenced infinity pools with a steep drop-off – not ideal for a restful break with smalls, stunning though they are! Teens will love it though, there is plenty to do and the island has enough going on to keep them entertained.

location
Ko Lanta island is found just off the coast of Krabi. There are complimentary year-round transfers from Krabi Airport that take approximately 2 hours, with the speed-boat leg serving up the ‘wow’ factor of picture-perfect towering limestone karsts and turquoise seas.
