Taking its name from the beautiful 200-year-old Tamarind tree that offers gently shade, this lovely boutique hotel is a great base to explore the heart of historic Chiang Mai. The authentic and charming design, made up of tiled pavilions and flowered garden courtyards, makes for an intimate and tranquil oasis in which to relax and rejuvenate but the delights of Chiang Mai and unique cultural heritage of the area lie just outside. It makes for the perfect combination of exciting adventures and flopping by the pool!

  • rooms

    The rooms are all situated around the flower filled courtyards and are simple and elegantly decorated with colourful hill tribe fabrics and throws and clean, contemporary fittings.

    The Lanna rooms are spacious and found on the first and second floor with garden courtyard views. The Lanna Deluxe rooms are slightly larger and have a private balcony or terrace while the Lanna Suites offer separate sitting and sleeping areas that are great for families looking for extra space. The Tamarind Suites step it up a little in terms of luxury or you can really go to town in the lavish Spa Suite with its private entrance and huge sun-trap terrace over-looking the gardens.

    There is a peaceful swimming pool at the heart of the resort, dotted with sun loungers and shaded by trees. The beautiful spa has a total of 6 treatment rooms and uses ancient healing Lanna Techniques to restore and rejuvenate. And then it might be time for a spot of retail therapy at the in-house boutique which sources jewellery, clothing and local arts and crafts from around the region.

    There is a complimentary daily walking tour of the area’s historic sites and several cultural activities for guests to dip into, such as umbrella painting and flower garland weaving. There are also many full and half day excursions around the local area along with trips further afield to Chiang Rai and The Golden Triangle.

    The in-house restaurant offers a cosy café style setting indoors, or al fresco on the terrace beside the pool, and serves up unique local Thai and international dishes.

    The resort offers a great central base for exploring the area and with most attractions within easy striking distance, it’s a great choice for a family stay. The hotel also provides a daily programme of cultural activities for little guests providing the perfect opportunity for fun while exploring the regional culture. All activities are complimentary and open to ages four and up but younger children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Babysitting services are available for children aged 1 year up (max 2 children per babysitter). Advance booking is recommended.

    The Lanna Deluxe rooms and Lanna rooms with Tamarind Suites can interconnect providing a double and a twin. One additional bed can also be provided per room (for a small fee)

    Found right at the centre of the historical area of the city, it’s just a 10-minute walk to the night bazaar and riverside restaurants. The famous ‘Sunday Walking Street’ of Chiang Mai also occurs right outside the hotel, a wonderful showcase of the art and craftsmanship of the Northern Thai people. Many of the cities important landmarks and ancient temples are also found within easy walking distance.

    The resort is just a 15-minute drive from Chiang Mai international airport which is serviced by a number of daily, one hour flights from Bangkok. The hotel can organise transfers and car hire with a professional driver on request.
