South Coast, Sri Lanka
With some of the prettiest beaches in the country as well as a selection of lovely boutique hotels, this area of Sri Lanka is, not surprisingly, one of the most popular destinations for families. The southern town of Tangalle is quiet and unspoilt, with endless palm-fringed beaches, whilst a little further west, Matara provides a base from which to go whale-watching. Galle is a destination in itself – a relic of Portuguese and Dutch colonialism with winding streets and old Morris Minors dotting the town. Some fabulous new restaurants and bars have recently opened and combined with the excellent shopping and cricket there is much to keep you here.
