Leopard Safaris is an award-winning safari outfit famed for personalised service and in-the-know guides. Owner Noel Rodrigo has been trailing leopards in Sri Lanka for over 35 years and is eager to share his experiences with his clients. Using stylish South African tents, complete with comfortable king-sized beds and modern comforts, you journey into Sri Lanka’s major national parks, Yala. The campsite offers convenient and private tented accommodation, delicious al-fresco dining and exemplary service. The expert guides are more than willing to share their knowledge of wildlife and photography with you. For the game drives, the customised jeeps are lead by English-speaking naturalists who are dedicated to helping you seek out even the most hard to find wildlife in the park. The jeeps can handle every type of terrain, give an excellent view, and are specially fitted with camera support points and battery charging facilities for photographers.

  • rooms

The camp’s customised South African tents are home to comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms and relaxing living areas. There are 8 double tents and 2 family tents with en-suite shower rooms (with hot water).  Alternatively treat yourself to one of their new Luxury Lodge tents!

  • facilities & activities

Open-air dining, hammocks and chill-out areas set the scene for a relaxing stay.  On the practical side, tripods, binoculars and mobile phone chargers are also available for guests to use. A mini-bar is offered for the safaris with 2 exciting game drives a day aboard customised land-cruisers setting out in to the heart of wild Yala.   Wildlife walks around the campside give you a chance to get closer to the monkeys and birds.  A wildlife library will help you identify what you see.

In the evening gather around the fire for a drink from the jungle bar and some stargazing after a delicious meal!  You can ever try your hand at a cooking class and impress your family and friends back home.

  • dining

Chefs serve freshly prepared homemade authentic Sri Lankan food. After the morning game drive you will enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast of fresh fruit, coconut roti, toast and jam with freshly brewed Sri Lankan tea and coffee. Lunch and dinner are freshly prepared and often there is a BBQ night with Sri Lankan prawns, lamb chops and garlic bread. Vegetarians and vegans are also well catered for.

  • family

Leopard Safaris specialises in making safaris as fun as possible for even the youngest members of the family, with games and walks geared towards different ages such as Amateur Photography walks, animal identification, and wildlife footprint games. Children age 6 plus are welcome year round or from 3 years during High Season (key holiday periods).

  • location

The picturesque wildlife-filled buffer zone of Yala National Park sets the scene for Leopard Safari’s blend of wilderness camping. Yala was chosen for its thriving leopard population and their relative ease at being sighted on safari. A diverse array of other wildlife, including sloth bears and elephants, crocodiles and myriad bird species are also seen. Yala National Park is located in the south-east of the island, approximately 40 kms from Mattala Airport and 250kms from Colombo International Airport. Due to government regulations, no camping is allowed in any national park but the safari camps are right on the buffer zone and only 2kms from the main gate.
