  • rooms

There are twenty eco-friendly, private sanctuaries. With sumptuous king-sized beds, sofas big enough to lounge on, dramatic glass walls to allow the outside in and a wide terrace with plunge pool, the only choice you have to make is the view. Choose from the emerald-green paddy fields, lush tropical forests or the shimmering tranquil lake.

For a more palatial base, there’s the elegant two-bedroomed Nikewewa Villa; 180 degree glass walls surround a spacious living and dining area offering breath-taking views of the paddy fields. A full-length pool running completes the picture.

  • facilities & activities

The resort is deep within the lush green wilderness and yet offers a hugely appealing array of activities and facilities. The sprawling scented gardens and breathtaking panoramic views provide a relaxing setting. The jewel in the crown is surely the Olympic sized pool with its azure water and iridescent tiles. Equally tempting is the luxurious spa, with its own waterfall providing a soothing backdrop. If you'd prefer a little more privacy then most of the villas have their own plunge pools.

There are bikes and golf carts available so you can explore the grounds and local villages. For something altogether more cultural, enjoy a cookery class with the resident chef, making the most of the organic home-grown produce. Other popular activities include archery, yoga, nature walks and jungle kayaking amidst floating lotus blossom. There are even two 'pet' horses for leisurely rides around the grounds.

Beyond the resort you have all the many delights of the Cultural Triangle on your doorstep; explore the vast treasure trove of culture and see the remains of ancient civilisations dating back to the 10th century BC. Whether you opt for a guided excursion with the knowledgeable hotel guides or more independent explorations, the staff will be only too happy to suggest an itinerary to suit.

  • dining

Enjoy the captivating panoramic views from the restaurant’s deck whilst you feast on a menu of Sri Lankan treats. Fresh ingredients, all locally grown, are whipped up into whatever you fancy, be it the finest of dining, a spicy curry or a mouth-watering salad. Choose to dine poolside, in your private villa or under the stars in the rice paddies.

  • family

Despite the lavish setting, the resort is child-friendly; they’ll love the pool (which is manned by a lifeguard), exploring the grounds by bike and spotting the extraordinary resident wildlife. Choose from archery or horse-riding lessons and there are board games and plenty of books for quiet times.

High chairs and a children’s menu are available in the restaurant and the staff will happily accommodate any particular food or dietary requests.

The best option for a family stay is the spacious two-bedroomed Nikawewa Villa, with its glass walls and full length pool. Baby-sitting is on hand for romantic night a deux.

  • location

The mansion and its 20 private villas are rural and remote but are surrounded by the ancient cities, heritage and architecture of the Cultural Triangle – steeped in history and home to some of the world's finest monuments. Despite the rural location the Anuradhpura airport is only a half hour's drive away or the International Airport is 160km. We can arrange transportation for you or for the ultimate treat you could avail yourself of the hotel's own private helipad and arrive in style!
