    Blending Japanese tradition with modern amenities, the 187 guest rooms and suites are stylish and elegant and softly lit by paper lanterns. Walls are adorned with framed works of antique kimono fabric, and low-slung beds are spread with crisp white sheets. Some rooms have deep tubs for a relaxing soak. Room types range from simply furnished twin rooms to deluxe rooms with king-sized beds, balconies and bathrooms with cypress bath tubs. Suites are a cut above, with ample space, granite bathrooms and luxurious wooden bathtubs.

    Guests wanting to kick back and unwind can head to Riraku Spa, which offers a number of Eastern and Western treatments between 9am and 9pm. There’s also a whirlpool bath, steam room, sauna and a spotless fitness centre with cardiovascular and isotonic machines, as well as free weights.

    The hotel offers a free one-way taxi ride from JR Kyoto Station and can also arrange rickshaw rides and bike rental. Watching a geisha dance is a must-do experience in Kyoto, and you can do it without having to leave the hotel. At 6.15pm every day, the hotel puts on a dance performances by a maiko (geisha in training), who will then chat to guests in the restaurant.

    With five eating options to choose from, you can eat authentic Japanese cuisine one night and Italian the next. The Grill is an all-day restaurant serving steak and seafood, as well as a breakfast buffet. Trattoria Sette is a casual Italian restaurant, while Pastry Boutique offers breads, pastries, chocolates and cakes. For Japanese dishes such as sashimi, sushi, and noodles, head to Touzan to eat at a table overlooking the garden. The cozy Touzan Bar sells some 30 different kinds of premium sake, including local Kyoto brands, with a happy hour between 5-8pm.

    Families will be well catered for in a Regency Suite Twin room. The L-shaped room is spacious enough for the whole brood to unwind, and two seperate bedrooms offer extra privacy.

    The hotel is located in the heart of Higashiyama, and just a few minutes’ walk to many of Kyoto’s top sites. It’s around 100km north east of Osaka Kansai International Airport, which takes around 75-minutes to reach by train, with a ten-minute taxi from JR Kyoto Station. There is an Airport Limousine Bus, which costs ¥1,310 one-way and takes around 55 minutes from Kyoto Station to Osaka Airport.
