Victoria Falls, Zambia
At Livingstone, the mighty Zambezi River drops 100m into a chasm stretching 1.7 kms in length, creating one of the world's most impressive sights - the Victoria Falls, known locally as 'Mosi oa Tunya' or 'The Smoke that Thunders'. A whole host of activities are on tap to enable you to see the Falls from all angles, whether on foot, by sunset cruise or micro-light. Livingstone has also become the adventure capital of Southern Africa. Thrill-seekers can try their hand at white-water rafting, tandem kayaking, abseiling or bungy-jumping.
Game drives are also available in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park although this is not home to the 'Big Five'. Botswana's Chobe National Park, which offers a good mix of land and water-based game viewing is also only a few hours away and hence can be visited as a day trip. Elephant sightings should be guaranteed, as this is home to the highest concentration in the world.
