Baraza Resort & Spa
  • rooms

The exquisite villas all enjoy dramatic Swahili architecture plus private plunge pool and terrace set amongst the brightly coloured, bougainvillea-scented gardens. With only 30 exclusive villas here, all enjoy a great location, not far from the pool or beach. The One Bed Ocean Villas are found overlooking the beachfront, Bahri One Bed Villas are just behind, followed by the Two Bed Sultan’s Villa and the Garden View Two Bed Villa. The opulent Presidential Villa has the pick of the views and large outdoor terrace with pool, plus kitchenette and two en-suite bedrooms.

  • facilities & activities

Set on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, the Baraza also offers an array of facilities to keep every member of the family happy. From the lovely frangipani-lined swimming pool, to the luxurious spa, to the well organised Kids Club, to the well-stocked library, to the exclusive Dive school and Water Sports Centre, all the tick boxes on any holiday list are met. This is topped with some wonderful (and educational) excursions, meticulously planned by the ‘Tours and Excursions’ Desk. These include Swahili School – learn to cook, speak Swahili or learn to palm weave and take home some hand-crafted gifts, or visit the local village and spend a ‘day in the life’ here while supporting the community. Or how about learning to climb a palm tree, rescue turtles, or simply drift along the coast in a Dhow and learn some traditional hand-line fishing?

  • dining

Start the day on the open-air Livingstone Terrace for breakfast and move to the Ocean Lounge for light lunches by the sea. The Sultan’s Dining Room ups its game in the evening, with a smart dress code and decadent feasts of Arabic, Persian, Swahili and local home-cooked fare. The resort is booked on a fully inclusive basis leaving you to sit back and relax – no exchange rates and adding up bills here!

  • family

Despite the glossy honeymoon style setting, families are very welcome here and there is plenty for them to do on and off the water. The Baraza Kids Club is a great set-up and for children aged 4 – 12 years (included in the cost). Mealtimes can be tailored to suit you and babysitting is also available for those evenings spent under the stars.

  • location

The resort is found on the South East of Zanzibar Island, about an hour from the airport. It is near the lovely Bwejuu Village which has links to the hotel and any guests are warmly welcomed.
