With only 12 tented villas at Azura Selous, an intimate and secluded atmosphere presides over this opulent camp. Staying in tented villas you really feel that you’re close to nature and have had an authentic safari experience but you do not compromise on luxury. The villas are spacious, with views over the tranquil rapids of the Great Ruaha River. They are beautifully furnished and all feature air conditioning, comfortable king size beds (or twins if you would prefer), fabulous stone bathrooms with double sinks, and both indoor and outdoor showers. Outside you have a fantastic rock plunge pool, and there is a hammock and sun lounger on your private deck; a great place to enjoy some rest and relaxation.

The elegant main camp area has an open-sided lounge adorned with African artefacts. There is lots of space to relax on comfortable sofas where you can enjoy one of the fascinating books that are available to browse. The beautiful infinity pool has stunning views over the river rapids and is a great place to cool off after your safari adventures; there are plenty of loungers and shady areas on the surrounding wooden decking.
Activities at Azura Selous focus on game drives with their expert guides. Selous Game Reserve is among Africa’s largest but least visited wildlife sanctuaries and since the lodge is a good four or five hour drive away from the other Selous lodges, you will not see other game vehicles; this makes for a very intimate and exclusive experience. You can take a driving safari in shared open sided 4 X 4 vehicles, a walking safari or boating safari, and there are also plenty of opportunities for bird watching. Game drives are best taken early in the morning or at dusk because of the hot climate, so can be accompanied by a sunrise bush breakfast or sundowner picnic - a great experience. You can also try your hand at fishing, although this has to be under the supervision of a guide due to the hippo and crocodile inhabiting the Great Ruaha River!
You can unwind after a day of excursions with a variety of wonderful spa treatments; an experience enhanced by the fact that they are given on the deck of your tented villa whilst you admire your stunning surroundings and listen to the real sounds of the local wildlife – no spa music required!

Meal times are always a special and intimate experience; dining is private and you eat in a variety of locations every day.
The food at Azura Selous is exceptional with a la carte dining and three course lunches and dinner made from the freshest of ingredients. There is a lovely dining area in the main camp where you can take breakfast and lunch, and the lounge area is the perfect place for an after dinner drink. The lodge takes dining very seriously and aims to make each meal time as special an experience as possible.
Unless you request to sit with other guests, dining is very much a private affair and the staff pride themselves on seating you in a variety of special locations. From breakfast in the bush to dining under the vast African skies by candle-light, it’s sure to be a very memorable occasion.

Azura Selous welcome children aged six and above and is a great choice for a family Safari. With a dedicated children’s programme, there is always something to keep kids entertained. Beyond the game drives there are plenty of activities including educational nature walks around the camp, fishing, discovering animal footprints and creating castings of them to take home as souvenirs, and of course, there is a great pool for them to swim in.
All children that stay at Azura are greeted with a wildlife-themed goody bag including pens and colouring books. Two extra beds can easily be accommodated in the tented villas, so there is plenty of room for children to share a bedroom with their parents, and meal times are completely flexible so can be tailored to your family’s needs.

Azura Selous is on the banks of the Great Ruaha River in the heart of Selous Game Reserve, the largest Game reserve in Africa. Selous is located in southern Tanzania.
The nearest airstrip to Azura Selous is in Simbazi, which is just 1km away. You can fly to Simbazi from Dar es Salaam – the flight time is approximately 45 minutes.
