Avondrood means ‘Evening Red’ - a distinct nod to the glorious sunsets guests enjoy here. This original Victorian Cape-Dutch house, built in 1870, offers guests a peaceful stay in a charming home-from-home that exudes a sense of French Huguenot history. Boasting 8 rooms, each tastefully designed, the owners have successflly blended modern touches with original features. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure here in the heart of the Winelands, Avondrood is the perfect base.

  • rooms

    The 8 individually themed rooms boast their own distinctive décor. Amenities include TV, king-sized extra length beds, a/c, mini-bar, tea/coffee tray and international plug adaptors. Some upgraded rooms offer 4-poster beds and/or claw-foot tubs. We recommend asking for one of the rooms with views of the tranquil gardens or the Wemmershoek Mountains.

    Standard Rooms are in the main house facing the street whereas Superior Rooms overlook the garden. Superior Deluxe Rooms have a private garden and terrace and are the closest room to the pool and garden area. The Family Suite is located on an upper level with two bedrooms and private verandah.

    The lush gardens and inviting breakfast veranda boast views across the large pool and heated Jacuzzi. Inside the main house enjoy some down-time in the communal lounge, perhaps curled up next to the grand fireplace with your favourite wine from the cellar and a book from the mini-library.

    Avondrood is surrounded by award-winning wineries and fantastic restaurants, all in a wonderful setting. Be sure not to miss the local chocolate factory!

    Guests can make use of Franschhoek Gym and Health Club just a 5 minute walk away. You'll find an indoor pool, sauna and wellness café (enquire locally).

    You are just a short stroll away from some of South Africa’s best restaurants. For something lighter, there are lovely delis and coffee shops where you can sample local treats. Do enquire lwith guest liaison for up to date recommendations and/or to reserve a table.

  • family

    Children under 6 years are welcome by arrangement. Children 0-3 yrs stay free of charge whereas those 4yrs and older are charged full rate (max 2 children per room), unless you stay in the Family Deluxe Suite. The Two Bedroom Suite, includes a private patio with loungers, fireplace, double and twin room, bathroom with bath and shower, TV, mini-bar and coffee/tea-making facilities.

    Conveniently located 1 hour from Cape Town in the heart of Franschhoek, you are within walking distance of the village centre, where you’ll find delightful art and craft shops and the Huguenot Museum, which is well worth a visit. Just a short drive away is the Franschhoek Motor Museum. Guests can explore the Village by car, bicycle, horseback or the unique wine tram hop-on-hop-off service.
