  • facilities & activities

Facilities include private plunge pools, wellness centre, sunset deck, library, curio shop, central lounge area and dining area all of which blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings, providing excellent game viewing opportunities from the comfort of the lodge.

Chitwa Chitwa’s excellent location in the Sabi Sands along with its top guides and Shangaan trackers make catching a glimpse of the ‘big five’ a probable experience. You can also enjoy cultural excursions to experience local life in the small village of Dixie, situated close to the Gowrie Gate entrance of the Sabi Sands.

To relax in between game activities, relaxing Spa treatments are available (charged additionally).

  • dining

Dining experiences are varied according to your stay duration. Lunch and breakfast are served next to the pool in the thatched lapa overlooking the lake, while sumptuous dinners are served in the open-air boma around a roaring fire or in our elegant and stylish dining room.

Guests can enjoy drinks in the lounge bar or rummage through their rather unique, underground wine cellar built around the natural granite rock floor, which stocks selected South African and imported wines, adding to the unique Mediterranean and African cross-culture cuisine that they’re famous for.

  • family

Chitwa Chitwa has the pleasure of welcoming children of all ages. From the age of 6 onwards, upon the dedicated guide approval, children will be permitted to participate with the adults on safari. For the younger children, dedicated activities will be offered to the family during the arrival briefing.

Chitwa’s Children Eco-Experience offers activities such as a daily bush walk within the enclosed camp area, walks are guided by an educator who will offer the children the opportunity to learn about and identify the beautiful fauna and flora in the area. Basic bush skills are taught such as how to survive in the bush, what plants to eat and how to build a basic shelter. Others include face painting session and evenings spent roasting marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate whilst listening to the enchanting folk-tales as told by an "intokoto" (the Shangaan term used to describe a person with lots of life experience).

There is a cosy library with a large selection of books and TV. Chitwa Chitwa story books are placed on children’s beds during turn down in the evenings. These fairy tales include traditional local bedtime stories such as “when the elephant was King” and “ When the hippo was hairy”.

The luxury suites can accommodate up to 2 extra beds for children under the age of 12 yrs whilst the Charlsy Suite is the ideal family stay, with 2 large inter-leading suites. The Private Chitwa House sleeps 4 (an extra bed is possible in one of the rooms which will make up a double & triple, so maximum 5!), but do keep in the mind that the pool surrounds the house.

  • location

The lodge is located on one of the largest lakes of the exclusive 63,000 hectare Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the greater Kruger National Park.  As a result, the animals have grown accustomed to the presence of safari vehicles in their territory allowing some of the best opportunities to meet Africa’s Big Five (buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard and lion).
