After a day’s game drive in Akagera National Park, kick back and enjoy the impeccable service at the sumptuous Magashi Camp. Overlooking Lake Rwanyakazinga and located in its own private concession area, the camp offers just six spacious tented guest rooms. The main area features a luxurious lounge, dining area, wine cellar and pool, as well as an expansive viewing deck with fire pit – perfect for toasting marshmallows under a starlit sky.     The six spacious, sumptuous tents have private decks so you can enjoy uninterrupted views over Lake Rwanyakazinga all to yourself. Inside, natural wood walls and floors blend with hide and sisal rugs, and you’ll sleep soundly in crisp sheets beneath a pink mosquito net. En-suite bathrooms are generously proportioned, and kitted out with eco-friendly toiletries.

    Wildlife enthusiasts can revel in the activities on offer, including day and exclusive night game drives. The camp’s open 4x4 vehicles each fit a maximum of seven guests, meaning that everyone gets an outside seat. Guests can also book catch-and-release fishing trips and boating excursions in an eight-seater swamp cruisers to view the water birds and other aquatic animals seen around Lake Rwanyakazinga.

    For some down-time, there’s a relaxing pool, surrounded by a sun terrace dotted with loungers, and a small library inside the central tent. Service is top notch – staff are friendly and polite, and on hand to greet you with drinks on arrival after safari.

    Expect fresh, wholesome food of excellent quality in the dining and bar area. Tuck into homemade breads and jams, wild honey and tropical fruit for breakfast, and fish from the lake for your three-course dinner. The buffet brunches include an exciting array of salads and dishes that taste as good as they look. Don’t miss sampling the Rwanda coffee, or expertly-crafted sundowner cocktails around the fire in the evening.

    Children aged six and above are welcome. Children aged between six and 16 must share a room with an adult.

    Set in the north-eastern corner of Akagera National Park, Magashi Camp overlooks Lake Rwanyakazinga and some of East Africa’s most scenic savannah. It’s the only camp in Rwanda situated inside a national park, and the entire complex is raised on a wooden walkway to protect guests from hippos and crocs. It takes around three and a half hours to drive to the capital, Kigali.
