facilities & activities
Damaraland Camp certainly gives you the authentic Namibian experience but despite the desolate surroundings, there are plenty of luxurious touches to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. First-class service and the positive and cheerful atmosphere of the Camp enhances your experience and makes this place very special, thanks to the fantastic staff (who aren’t just employees but part-owners) who clearly take a lot of pride and delight in their camp.
The spacious thatched living area is a great spot to relax and read a book and admire the surreal views towards the Brandberg Mountains from one of the large, deep sofas, or you can unwind on a shaded sunlounger by the oval-shaped swimming pool with a refreshing drink from the bar. On beautiful evenings the campfire and outdoor ‘boma’ sites are the perfect place to wind down after a day’s excursions, and get to know your fellow guests or indulge in some stargazing.
Activities at the Camp revolve around exploring the Huab River system; tracking elephants on foot with the friendly and local rangers, or taking a nature drive or walk. Large game is not concentrated year-round here, with the natural cycle of rainfall dictating the seasonal movement of wildlife along the Huab River, but there are desert-adapted elephant and other wildlife to be seen. You may spot black rhinos, oryx, springbok, kudu, giraffes, or there are over 240 species of birds for you to see. If you’re interested in learning about the local communities, you can visit the Bergsig School and find out more about local heritage, or discover the area’s interesting flora including shepherd’s trees that can be viewed on the way to some of Africa’s best known rock engravings, including the famous Twyfelfontein etchings.

dining
There is a large dining area complete with a large fireplace in the main thatched area where you will be served delicious meals. You can take a pre-dinner drink around the open campfire whilst chatting to fellow guests or simply admire the beautiful starlit night sky. On warm evenings dinner is served by the light of lanterns, in the outdoor ‘boma’, complete with warm blankets if the weather is cold; the campfire and al fresco dinner is a very memorable experience and should not be missed.

family
Children aged 12 and over are welcome at Damaraland Camp, and would enjoy the wildlife and activities on offer. There are no childcare facilities but one of the thatched units has two bedrooms, so would be suitable for a family.
