The Queen Room
  • rooms

The guest rooms are all generously sized with enough space for a sitting area, either in the room itself or in an adjoining annex.  Elegant and luxuriously decorated with vibrant tones that reflect the colours of the Namibian desert, all but one of the rooms have large double beds (some king, some queen) and are dressed with fresh, crisp linens and fluffy pillows.  There are beautiful antiques maintaining the unique and innate charm of this colonial villa but of course all the accommodation includes the necessary modern conveniences; each room boasts a plush bath or shower room, a flat screen TV, safe, hairdryer and free Wi-Fi.

In the main house there are three upstairs doubles, including one suite with two bedrooms, all with showers.  Downstairs there are two doubles that can be interconnected; one with a shower and one has twin beds and both a separate bath and shower.  In a separate wing of the house there are two further suites – one has a shower and one has a bath, and in a separate building just across the road there’s a Honeymoon Suite which has its own sitting room, private parking space, a terrace and independent access.

Thanks to its small size, the Villa Margherita offers seclusion and personalised service making it the ideal base from which to explore Swakopmund.  The old world ambience and light-hearted yet opulent mood of this delightful guest house combine beautifully with the flamboyant style of the buildings original features to create a truly remarkable retreat.   You can relax in the communal sitting room with books and a fireplace – ideal to curl up in front of in the evenings, or enjoy a drink in the fabulous art deco bar.  There is also a small flower-decked garden where breakfast can be enjoyed during the summer months.  If you want to catch up with friends or surf the web, there is WIFI available throughout the house and a laptop for guests to use.  DVD players and films can also be requested.

Thanks to the central location of Villa Margherita you are just a short stroll away from all of Swakopmund’s interesting sights.  You can admire the German colonial architecture, visit the Swakopmund’s Museum, art galleries, the National Marine Aquarium and the Swakop River with its swooping sand dunes.  Explore the desert surrounding Swakopmund by camel or horseback, go skydiving, dune boarding, take a cruise from the harbour to see dolphins, take a hot air balloon ride, try quad biking or kayaking; there are a multitude of thrilling adventures to be had.

If you’re looking for sporting activities, there is the Rossamund Gold Course just 15 minutes away by car, and there is also a tennis court and swimming pool in the town.

  • dining

The a la carte breakfast is definitely a highlight at Villa Margherita’s and is made even more enjoyable during the summer months when it can be taken al fresco in the flower-decked garden; fruit salad, great coffee and a cooked breakfast is on offer.

The Italian in-house restaurant, Il Tulipano, is excellent and serves mouth-watering authentic cuisine created by Amelio who learned to cook at one of Italy’s top catering schools and is passionate about food.  He combines the best local ingredients with Italian recipes and the result is a truly tantalising menu.  The funky décor and bold artwork in the dining room will make your meal even more memorable and the tempting choice of South African and Italian wines complement the food beautifully.  Drinks from the art deco bar can be enjoyed in front of a warming fire, or in the pretty garden during the warmer weather.

  • family

Claudine and Amelio have their own young family, so are incredibly accommodating when it comes to children.  The largest room is suitable as a family unit with two bedrooms and a lounge area, and there are two interconnecting rooms available too.

  • location

Villa Margherita is located in the heart of Swakopmund, on the corner of Daniel Tjongarero Street and Otavi Street.  Swakopmund is Namibia’s main coastal town and is located on the Atlantic Coast in SW Africa and is surrounded by the Namib Desert.
